Inquiry -
Identifying our unique strengths and developing personal goals in school!
Over the past two weeks, we have been working on developing our skills in many areas. Some areas we are focusing on are reading, spelling, focusing, helping others, story writing and handwriting. To keep track of our goals, we have begun building a rainbow brick wall. Each time a student practices their goal, they get to add a coloured brick!

With lots and lots of practice, we are becoming more confident with our magic e in spelling! This week we have continued practicing our magic e to help with fluency; however, we are now moving on to learning about open and closed syllable words. A little trick we have found is that in the two-syllable words we have learnt so far, there must be a vowel in each syllable!

Maths -
Over the past two weeks, we have been learning place value. We have been doing a lot of group work with materials (MAB blocks, counters, tens-frames etc) that help us understand the value of ones, tens and even hundreds or thousands! We began the unit off with writing the numbers as numerals. Regrouping ones into tens and then beginning to compare and order different numbers.
There are many learning opportunities for place value at home. This may be where your child is grouping different objects in tens and ones. Clothes, plates, toys, books etc!
