WAKAKIRRI

On Wednesday 5th August our students travelled to The Clocktower Theatre in Moonee Ponds to be part of the Wakakirri Dance Story Competition. Their performance “Your Journey, Our Story…” was a wonderful success! We had 13 amazing performers on stage and 1 dedicated backstage student working together as a team. Every student showed outstanding commitment, enthusiasm, and confidence throughout the performance.
The Wakakirri Mission is “To empower young people through storytelling and creative expression, supporting wellbeing, engagement and personal growth by providing inclusive, meaningful performing arts programs for schools across Australia.” This was evident on the day.The students learnt processes backstage and on stage, developed friendships and connections with other school students, had lots of fun in the process and all learnt the power of “Chookas” (meaning good luck in theatre language).
We would like to thank the following staff for their amazing work preparing us for the day; Jess Edwards, Lauren Steel and Syd Sydney. A huge thank you to Maddie Briese who works at a local dance school. Maddie created the choreography for our performance and we can’t thank her enough for her support.
Most importantly we are proud of our students; their hard work, creativity, commitment, and teamwork were evident throughout the night, and they should all be incredibly proud of the amazing job they did telling our dance story and representing our school.
Thank you to Wakakirri parents and staff for all their support throughout the year.
Chookas!
