CRICKET ACADEMY

The Mickleham Secondary College Cricket Academy has enjoyed an exciting and productive start to Term 3, with students continuing to embrace a range of opportunities both on and off the field.

A highlight of the term was our T20 friendly match against Al Siraat College, played at Merrifield Recreation Reserve. With limited opportunities to play competitive cricket during the winter months, this fixture was a fantastic chance for our students to transfer their training into a match environment.

Batting first, the Academy produced an excellent team performance to finish on 136/9 from 20 overs. Veer and Reet provided the ideal platform with a composed opening partnership during the Powerplay, before contributions throughout the middle order ensured the scoreboard continued to build. Pleasingly, a number of batters retired after making valuable contributions, allowing every player the opportunity to spend time in the middle and gain valuable match experience.

Our bowlers then backed up the batting performance with a disciplined display, restricting Al Siraat College to 92/6 from their 20 overs. Wickets were shared across the bowling group, with every player contributing by bowling two overs. The match showcased the depth of talent within the Academy while reinforcing the importance of teamwork, communication and executing team plans.

Away from the field, Academy students successfully completed their Provide First Aid and Respond to Emergency Situations training as part of their VET Sport and Recreation program. Achieving these nationally recognised certifications is an important milestone in their development, equipping students with valuable life skills while supporting their progress towards their VET Sports Coaching qualification.

Training throughout the term has continued to be of an exceptionally high standard, with students demonstrating outstanding commitment, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve. The focus on skill development, game awareness, leadership and professionalism has created a positive learning environment where students are continually challenged to grow both as cricketers and as young leaders.

Looking ahead, the Academy is excited to visit the iconic Junction Oval later this term. Students will gain a unique behind-the-scenes insight into the operations of one of Victoria's premier cricket venues, learning about the planning, preparation and management required to deliver elite cricket events. Experiences such as these continue to broaden our students' understanding of the many career pathways available within the cricket industry.
