RECOURCE CENTRE

Resource Centre Update
The Resource Centre has been buzzing with activity this term, and it has been wonderful to see so many students making the most of the space. Thank you to everyone who has helped make it such a welcoming and engaging environment.
🧩 Riddle of the Day
A huge thank you to our guest riddlers—Miss Elise Last, Miss Bianca and Coby Kennedy 7J—for contributing some fantastic brain teasers this term. If you have a favourite riddle you'd like to share, please bring it to me in the Resource Centre. We'd love to feature your challenge!
📚 Library Updates
Our Library Self-Service Kiosk continues to be well used. We have also introduced a class booking system for library tours and dedicated class borrowing sessions, making it even easier for teachers to access the Resource Centre with their classes.
📚 Introducing Our New Quiet Study Space in the Resource Centre
We are excited to announce the opening of our new Quiet Study Space in the Resource Centre, available to all students during recess and lunch.
This space has been created to provide students with a calm, respectful environment where they can focus on their learning, complete schoolwork, or simply enjoy some quiet reading time.
The Quiet Study Space is for:
📖 Silent reading
✍️ Writing and homework
💻 Independent schoolwork and assignments
📝 Catching up on missed work
📚 Revision and exam preparation
🤫 Any other silent learning activities
🌟 Young Achievers Club
The Young Achievers Club will also operate in the Quiet Study Space every Tuesday and Thursday at recess, with support from our Inclusion Staff. The club provides a welcoming environment where students can receive support, stay organised, complete schoolwork and develop positive learning habits.
We look forward to seeing students make the most of this new learning space. Thank you for helping us create a calm, respectful and productive environment for everyone.
Quiet minds. Big goals.
🎨 Student Contributions
A special thank you to Ethan Navarra for designing our fantastic new Manga sign. Ethan generously offered his artistic skills to create the sign, reflecting his willingness to help and contribute to the Resource Centre. His creativity, initiative and positive attitude have helped make this popular area even more inviting for students. Thank you, Ethan, for sharing your talents and making a lasting contribution to our library community.
A special thank you to Haven Baker for designing our new Zen Zone sign. Haven's thoughtful design reflects the Resource Centre's commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student feels they belong. Her poster beautifully demonstrates the importance of inclusion, encouraging all students to feel comfortable accessing a calm and supportive space for learning. Thank you, Haven, for your creativity and for making a meaningful contribution to our school community.
🌿 Thank You, Lily Crowe! 🌿
A heartfelt thank you to Lily Crowe for her generous donation of plants to the Resource Centre.
Lily’s thoughtful contribution is helping us create a greener, calmer and more nurturing environment where students can read, learn, reflect and connect. The plants are adding life to the space and helping create a welcoming environment for everyone.

🌏 Expanding Our EAL & Languages Collection
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Languages and Multicultural Education Resource Centre (LMERC) to explore resources that will help expand our EAL and Languages collection. This area of the Resource Centre will continue to grow, providing even greater support for our multilingual learners.
🎲 Games & Zen Zone
Our collection of new board games has arrived! A borrowing system is currently being introduced so students can enjoy these during designated times.
The Zen Zone has also been enhanced with a dedicated Puzzle Corner, giving students another opportunity to relax, challenge themselves and enjoy some mindful downtime.
👏 Library Leaders & Assistants
A huge thank you to our incredible Library Leaders and Library Assistants. Your enthusiasm, reliability and willingness to help every day make a real difference. Your support keeps the Resource Centre running smoothly and creates a welcoming space for everyone.
🎖️ Student Recognition Congratulations and thank you to Sarah Appasa, our outstanding Library Leader, for designing our new Library Leader badge. Sarah's creativity, initiative and ongoing contribution to the Resource Centre are a wonderful example of student leadership in action. She consistently demonstrates our school values and is a fantastic role model for others. We are incredibly proud of her contribution and thank her for helping shape the identity of our Library Leadership team.
💡 Your Ideas Matter
The Resource Centre is excited to introduce our Student Suggestion Box—a place where every student has the opportunity to share ideas that could make Mickleham Secondary College an even better place to learn, connect and belong.
Whether it's an idea for a lunchtime activity, a special event, a new club, an excursion, a library improvement or something completely different, we want to hear from you!
Students can submit their suggestions anonymously or choose to include their name. Every suggestion is read and carefully considered.
To ensure students know their voices are being heard, we have also launched a Suggestion Box Updates display in the Resource Centre. This display provides regular updates on suggestions that are being explored, implemented or are unable to proceed, helping students see the impact of their ideas.
Your voice is important. Your ideas can inspire positive change.
📍 Where? Resource Centre
✍️ How? Complete a suggestion slip and place it in the Student Suggestion Box.
📢 Stay informed! Check the Suggestion Box Updates display to see what's happening with student ideas.
Some of the suggestions already submitted include:
- A Gaga Pit
- Year 10 excursions
- Luna Park instead of Funfields for an excursion
- Pyjama Day
- Dress-up days
- Black hoodie with school logo
- More food options in the canteen
- Longer breaks
Year 8-9 formal
Together, we can make Mickleham Secondary College an even better place for everyone!
🏆 Celebrating Positive Behaviour
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) initiative is thriving in the Resource Centre. It's wonderful to see so many students demonstrating our school values during recess and lunchtime, earning House Points for their positive choices.
Keep up the fantastic work—and Go Goodes!
✨ Looking Ahead
The Resource Centre continues to evolve as a vibrant learning hub for our school community. With new resources, programs, spaces and initiatives on the way, there are plenty of exciting things still to come.
Keep an eye on the Resource Centre—you won't want to miss what's next!
