Flower Dissection: Looking Inside a Flower

This week, Year 7 students got to pull apart flowers and look closely into its components. Using tweezers, microscopes and magnifying glasses, students carefully separated the petals, sepals, stamens, and pistil to see how each part helps the flower reproduce. They looked at the stamen (the male part, which makes pollen) and the pistil (the female part, which contains the ovary and eggs). Students also examined tiny pollen grains up close and learned how pollen travels from flower to flower to make seeds. This activity helped bring science to life and in better understanding of parts of a flower.

Year 7 Melbourne Zoo Excursion

Our Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to Melbourne Zoo as part of their science studies. During the visit, students explored how animals are classified into different groups based on their characteristics and discovered the amazing adaptations that help organisms survive in their environments. Through engaging presentations and close-up observations of a variety of animals, students developed a deeper understanding of biodiversity, classification and adaptation while making meaningful connections to their classroom learning.
