🛌🏻Cebula Boarding

Boarding News

Dear Boarding Parents and Guardians,

The past two weeks have been full of excitement, reflection and community spirit as we celebrated several important milestones within our Cebula boarding community .

We were proud to join schools across the country from May 11-17, marking National Boarding Week, a time to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution that the Cebula boarders make to our College.

Our students took part in a range of fun and meaningful activities, including shared meals, a highly competitive Master Chef cook off, an equally energetic scavenger hunt,  and a joint Mass and Supper with the boarders from SBC. We all had opportunities to reflect on the unique bonds that develop in boarding life, and it was a wonderful celebration of the resilience, leadership and energy our boarders bring to the College every day.

A particular highlight this week was the eagerly awaited official opening of Malnia House

- our new purpose-built Junior Boarding facility, designed specifically to support the journey of our younger boarders. Malnia House, named after Jozef Cebula’s birthplace in Poland,  is certainly more than just a building; it’s a home where the boys  can feel supported during their transition to residential life, develop independence in a safe and nurturing environment, and begin to form the lifelong friendships that are such a special part of boarding. The space has been thoughtfully designed to foster a strong sense of community and care, ensuring that every student feels known, valued and connected. We were fortunate that the Oblate Provincial,  Fr Andew Chen OMI, was able to join us along with special guests including Board Chair, Ms Mary Retel,  Board Directors, former Principal, Mr Andrew Watson, College staff and the architects and builders whose insight and craftsmanship combined to produce the exceptional facility we are so proud of. A special part of the opening ceremony included each Malnia House boy contributing  soil from his hometown which will form part of a display and parent reflections from Mr and  Mrs Tan (Port Hedland).

We rounded out the week  with our MMD (Mazenod Mission Day) celebrations. As part of the day, Cebula House boys stepped up with an impressive fundraising effort, running four different stalls to raise funds for Oblate projects in India. Each stall was  well-organised, creatively presented, and enthusiastically supported by the wider community. Their initiative, teamwork and generosity of spirit were truly inspiring, and a great reminder of the values we strive to nurture in our  boys.

Thank you for your continued support. It's been a busy and rewarding fortnight, and we look forward to sharing even more Cebula Boarding highlights as the term continues.
