GRANDIN WIN 2025 HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Congratulations to Grandin House for their first House Athletics Carnival win since 2015!
It was a close battle with the reigning champions Albini in second place and Tempier finishing third. With 139 events in the program, it came down to some memorable 4x100m relays and the team games to determine the final standings.
Well done to all the students for their excellent participation, House spirit and behaviour throughout the carnival.
There were some outstanding individual performers on the day, and we congratulate the students below who are the 2025 House Athletics Carnival Champion Boy and Runner Up Champion Boy for their year group. Remarkably, there was a 3-way tie in Year 7 for the Runner Up Champion Boy and Tied Champion Boys in Year 12!

Intermediate Soccer
Yesterday the Intermediate Soccer team played Southern River College at Southern River. With some new faces in the team this year the squad looked to get off to a good start. The game was a tight contest with both teams having several opportunities to take the advantage but at half time the score remained nil all.
The second half started with Southern River scoring early off a deflected ball. The goal kicked Mazenod into gear, who then dominated the rest of the half, creating some great opportunities. Thanks to Lucas R's well placed strike past the Southern River keeper, the game finished 1-1. Well done to the team and their coach, Mr Wani.
The next game will be against Kalamunda SHS in Week 5.
Senior Soccer
Mazenod played their 2nd game of the soccer shield competition away against Kent St SHS. The team were looking to continue their positive start to the season after a good win against Al Ameen.
Mazenod dominated the match from start to finish, playing fluid team football with crisp passing and clinical finishing. We ran away with the match, winning 11- 0 at the final whistle. It was another great win for the team who will play Darling Range College at home in Week 8.
Junior Soccer
The Mazenod Junior Soccer Team opened the season hosting local rivals Darling Range Sports College. With plenty of new faces in the team as well as defending pennant champs, the team was hoping for a good start to the season against a strong Darling Range outfit.
The game started at ferocious pace with Mazenod striking first on the break, through Cooper C's powerful top corner shot. However, Darling Range struck back soon after off a well executed set piece. Before the half time break Mazenod were awarded a penalty off a handball which was beautifully slotted home by Will A. We held on to record a well fought 2-1 win. It was a great start to the competition.
A big thanks to the parents and staff who came and supported the team!
First XVIII
The Mazenod First XVIII secured a gutsy 7-point win over Darling Range Sports College in a tightly contested match. A first half with clean ball movement and midfield dominance saw Mazenod control the play and surge to a 5-goal lead at the main break.
Darling Range fought back strongly in the second half, applying scoreboard pressure and challenging Mazenod’s composure. However, the back six stood tall under pressure, consistently repelling attacks and keeping the opposition at bay when it mattered most.
Nate T led from the front, James C impressed with his clean ball use, and Greg O was dominant in the ruck. A strong team performance built on early momentum and backed by a resilient defence got the job done.
Next up we play our final game against Governor Stirling.
Second XVIII
In Round Two of the 2nd XVIII fixtures Mazenod College took on Eastern Hills. The game started strongly with a quick goal straight from clearance thanks to the midfields' great work. Harlyn F was instrumental in the ruck the whole game against strong opposition and the midfield worked tirelessly in the first half. The backline were very solid when the ball came down and rebounded well to set-up a few goals. Unfortunately for the forwards, although the movement was good the Eastern Hills players would always cut it off at the defensive 50 due to some solid half-back players for their team. The Mazenod boys continued to play a solid brand of footy and ended up leading by a goal after the end of the first half.
We knew they were going to start strong in the second half and we needed to be on top of our game. Although the boys tried hard, we unfortunately struggled to maintain possession of the ball and saw three goals in a row kicked against us. Being down 17 points with around 10 minutes to go we threw caution to the wind and aggressively started surging the ball forward. In the final 10 minutes with the ball down in our forward 50, we couldn’t make the most of our chances. 3 missed goals from straight in front proved the difference in the score as after we snagged a goal late, we ended up losing by just 8 points. Overall, Brock P was great again on the wing, whilst Daniel R, John W, Tate J and Harlyn F all had moments of brilliance to try and help us secure the win.
Second XVIII
The last game of the regular season saw the 2nd XVIII Football team take on La Salle College on the home deck. The game started positively with our captain John W winning the toss for the first time and kicking to the eastern end of the field. Although the team had a lot of changes from the previous week, we were confident that the gents could pull off the win and end the season 2-1.
The game started with some strong midfield battles and clearances from both teams. However, La Salle probably started with the upper hand as they were kicking down a small hill towards the west end of the field. They were quick and athletic which helped them get a jump on us in the first half, kicking 6 goals off the back of a great run from their half-back line. Our backline was as solid as ever, stopping and rebounding the ball whenever they didn’t take a mark but La Salle were very good overhead so little was brought to the ground. We went into the half-time break 8 points down.
In the second half we started very strongly, but as was the story of our season, our countless entries inside the forward 50 couldn’t be capitalised on as a strong defensive outfit for La Salle rebounded again and again. Our backline played very high to try and box the opponents in with Tully M and Brayden S playing outstanding rebounding roles in the second half. Although we had an immense amount of inside 50’s, we could only scrape 2 goals for the term as La Salle got out the back of our defenders for the first time and put one through the big sticks. This unfortunately proved to be the difference as we lost the game by 3 points after a terrific second half.
The 2nd XVIII finished the season 1-2 after losing by a combined margin of 11 points over the two loses. A great 3 games by all that played.
