KOORIE RANGER PROGRAM  

This term, our Indigenous students had the opportunity to participate in the Koorie Rangers Program, a hands-on cultural learning experience that celebrated Aboriginal traditions, culture and connection to Country.

Throughout the program, students engaged with respected Elders and connected with other Indigenous students while learning about their shared histories, knowledge and cultural practices. Activities included exploring local waterways and analysing the ecosystem to learn about water health and purification, creating traditional emu callers, sanding and decorating their own digging sticks, and discovering the cultural significance of possum skin cloaks before designing a possum skin that told their own personal story.

A highlight of the program was sharing traditional foods together, with some students trying kangaroo for the very first time.

The Koorie Rangers Program provided a meaningful opportunity for students to strengthen their cultural identity, build connections with community, and deepen their understanding of Aboriginal knowledge and traditions through engaging, practical experiences.
