National Youth Parliament

Last month I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Canberra to participate in a mock Parliament program. One high school student from each of 150 federal electorates were chosen to represent their community - I represented the electorate of Macnamara. 

As a part of the program we engaged in a full recreation of passing legislation in parliament, debating and passing two bills: intergenerational fairness and disclosing the use of AI.

We also got the opportunity to meet and hear from many politicians such as the Prime Minister, Speaker of the House and Opposition leader. 

My favourite part of the program was when we got to sit in the gallery and watch Question Time in the House of Representatives. I also enjoyed getting to meet people from across the country who were interested in politics, I made many friends who I will continue to keep in touch with.
