👩🏻‍🍳SIS TEEN CHEF SUCCESS👨🏻‍🍳

Last Thursday,  four of our Year 10 students visited John Paul College for the Teen Chef competition.

We were up against twelve other schools for this annual SIS cooking event. The theme for the recipes was 'nostalgic with a modern twist'. Much to our delighted surprise we WON!!!!  According to Mr Cosentino, this is the first time Nazareth has won the competition. WOOHOO! 

The students who have been very enthusiastic and gave it all their efforts were -

Daniela Tokanovic and Mila Gagic who produced a Pistachio Tiramisu Shortbread, and Justin Mai and Hayden Chao who cooked Chicken Cordon Bleu with creamy mash potato. 

👏 A huge congratulations to these students. 

A very big thank-you to all of our tasters. Also, we appreciate all the time and effort given by Zoya Curcio and all she does for us.

Our Nazareth Aerobics Squad competes at the Aeroschools State Championships 🤸‍♂️

What an outstanding effort from our aerobics team, who took to the floor at the 2026 Victorian Secondary AeroSchools Championships on Friday 31 July. 

Our squad has shown incredible commitment, from early morning training sessions to weekend workshops and lunchtime practice, our students have given up their own time again and again to perfect their routines and support one another along the way. 

Aerobics demands strength, precision, flexibility, and perfect synchronisation, and it takes real perseverance to bring a routine together as a team. Watching our squad perform at a state-level championship is a proud reflection of just how far they've come, not only in skill, but in confidence, resilience, teamwork and camaraderie. 

Representing our school on the state stage is no small feat, and this squad has shown exactly what dedication and teamwork can achieve. 

A big thank you to our coaches (Rosh, Caitlin, Anais, Alannah and Julia) and who have worked tirelessly getting them to this level and to our staff members Deirdre Hughes and Laura Langmead who accompanied and supervised them during the day.

🏀Our Nazarene Basketballers Shoot for the Stars at State Champions Cup 

Congratulations to our U/15 Boys, U/15 Girls, and U/17 Boys basketball teams, who represented our school with pride at the Basketball Victoria Champions Cup, held at the State Basketball Centre on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 August. 

Being selected to compete in this prestigious event is a huge achievement in itself for our school. The Champions Cup is a top-tier competition that showcases the very best school basketball talent from across Victoria, and our School of Excellence program should be enormously proud to have earned a place among them. Our squads have been working hard and appreciate the opportunity they have to compete in this event. Regardless of results, a great achievement. 

Whether shooting hoops, setting up plays, or cheering on teammates from the bench, every student who took part should hold their head high. Representing the school at this level takes courage, commitment, and a genuine love of the game, and our basketballers embodied all three. 

A huge thank you also goes to our coaches (Chris and Sienna), for the leadership and guidance at every training session, during the competition and helping them reach this exciting milestone.

VCE Art Making and Exhibiting - Unit 4 📸

Art Making and Exhibiting students had the privilege of attending the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh). They were given a guided tour of the gallery by the senior curator Angela Connor, including a behind the scenes look into the correct, safe, storage of the museum’s art collection. 

Students got to view artworks by Brook Andrew one of Australia’s most influential and internationally recognised artists. They learnt about the role of curating an art exhibition, including the layout of the exhibition, the display methods with respect to the artists intentions, lighting, humidity and the conservation and preservation methods used in displaying, transporting and the storage of artworks.

Victorian Volleyball Schools Cup 🏐🤾

Our Nazareth College volleyball program recently took part in the Victorian Volleyball Schools Cup (8’s and 11’s), one of the state's premier school volleyball competitions. The three-day tournament provided students with the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest school volleyball teams from across Victoria.

This tournament, Nazareth was proudly represented by 48 students across five teams: two Year 8 Boys teams, two Year 8 Girls teams, and one Year 11 Girls team. 

Competing at this level is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment, dedication and hard work our students have shown throughout the year so far.

The tournament not only challenged our students on the court but also provided valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship and leadership while representing the College with pride. Regardless of the final results, every student should be congratulated for their effort, determination and the way they conducted themselves throughout the competition.

The excitement doesn't stop there. Across all year levels, from Years 7 to 12, both our boys' and girls' volleyball squads continue to train with enthusiasm as they prepare for the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast this December. With months of hard work still ahead, we look forward to seeing our students continue to develop their skills and represent Nazareth College on the national stage.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and staff involved, and we wish our teams every success as they continue their preparations for the remainder of the volleyball year.

VCE Math Methods Scavenger Hunt

"On Tuesday, 28 July, our Year 12 Methods cohort participated in Urban Quest, essentially an 'Amazing Race' style game around the city using augmented reality. 

The goal was to use AR to detect a variety of clues in relation to an array of problems requiring deep logical thinking and strategy to figure out. It was great viewing for everyone else in the city too - seeing a group of Year 12s racing around and pointing their phones at anything in sight.

This activity, while not being entirely maths based, challenged aspects of teamwork, performance under pressure, and most importantly, patience - all things integral in our day to day lives, especially through the pressures of Year 12. 

All in all, this was a great break from the classroom, and a great way to extend our problem solving skills outside the school environment. Special thanks to Ms Singh and Mr Brusco for organising this - we had a lot of fun, and greatly appreciate your support."

Year 8 Visual Communication Design

First time Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have been busy in the classroom experimenting with the media of grey-lead and coloured pencils to explore rendering techniques and drawing from observation. They have begun learning various techniques to depict the proportions of their forms correctly using line, and how to consider a light source to emphasise the form in front of them. 

For now, students have begun with geometric forms, but they will develop and practice their skills by drawing and rendering some organic forms as well as multiple forms in the one space over the coming weeks. Please see some of the students’ considered renders below.

Year 10 Outdoor Ed : Indoor Rock-Climbing  

Our Year 10 Outdoor & Environmental Studies students recently participated in an action-packed two-hour indoor top-rope climbing session at Bayside Rock. 

During the session, students learnt the fundamentals of climbing and belaying, while developing communication, trust, and teamwork skills. From tackling challenging climbs, to cheering on their classmates from the ground, the experience was filled with adventure, excitement, and personal achievement. 

Students pushed beyond their comfort zones, solved problems on the wall, and celebrated each success together, making for a rewarding introduction to the challenge and thrill of rock climbing.

🎥ATTENTION MEDIA STUDENTS AND BUDDING FILM MAKERS!

The ATOM Awards are a film making completion open to any film makers in Australia from primary classrooms to professional production houses, the awards celebrate creativity, innovation, and media literacy. Finalists will even have the chance to see their work broadcast on the big screen at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) in Melbourne. 

It is open to Secondary Students: Individual or collaborative school projects.
