Applied Learning Friday Application Class recently competed in pairs to create a cultural sweet dish. As was described by a VCE VM student who is usually in the work-placement on a Friday, "so much is happening in this kitchen." Yet students in our Application class are familiar with the fast paced atmosphere, with time pressures!

to VCE VM, Jono and Taki.
Scott and Matt G replicated a delicious Aussie favourite - a chocolate jam lamington! Meanwhile, Matt C and Dion enjoyed gooey Loukoumades!!!
Year 11 VM Melbourne Zoo Experience
"On 4 August, the Year 11 VM classes went to the Melbourne Zoo for the day. We learnt how to make our way on public transport. We had to catch a bus and two trains. It was really fun to see the animals playing in their own habitat and to learn about the environmental problems of marine wildlife. Thank you to Mr Adam Cooper for organising this off campus learning experience."

Year 11 VCE VM students recently attended a day at Melbourne Zoo as part of their Personal Development Skills (PDS) Unit 2: Connecting with Community. The day began with students travelling together by train into the city, providing an opportunity to build independence, confidence and responsibility while using Melbourne's public transport network.
Upon arrival, students participated in an engaging educational session exploring the concept of community at the local, national and global levels, while examining the important role Zoos Victoria plays in wildlife conservation, environmental sustainability, education and community engagement.
The educational session immersed students in a range of hands-on activities that highlighted the value and importance of community. These experiences enabled students to make meaningful connections between the day's activities and the concepts they have been exploring in the classroom.
Throughout the excursion, students explored the zoo exhibits, while investigating real-world examples of how organisations work collaboratively with communities, to protect endangered species, support conservation initiatives and inspire positive environmental action. The day provided an authentic learning experience, that strengthened students' understanding of community connections, and the positive impact organisations can have on both people and the environment.
While the excursion focused on community, conservation and sustainability, it also reminded students of the importance of embracing their inner child. By exploring the zoo with curiosity, creativity and a sense of fun, students discovered that learning extends far beyond the classroom and is enriched when we remain inquisitive, adventurous and open to new experiences.
Of course, no trip to the zoo would be complete without some favourite animal encounters! Among the highlights of the day were the roaring lions, the playful meerkats, the beautiful butterfly house, and the fascinating orangutans, which proved to be the students' most popular exhibits. These memorable experiences helped make the excursion both educational and thoroughly enjoyable.

Balloon Footy Update
SCOPE's Balloon Football commitment continues from our Year 12 VCE VM'ers. They have now competently trained the Year 11s in the different roles, as this responsibility will pass on to them for 2027.
We look forward to the forthcoming Finals Series, pondering if any team will be able to pip the Demons who have been in form all season!
