From the Principal Team

What a wonderful term we have had.  Our students have been involved in a wide range of programs already this term including the Swimming Carnival, Cross Country, interschool sports, Cultural Diversity Week and Harmony Day, International Women’s Day and a range of excursions, lunchtime activities and more.  You will read about many of these throughout the newsletter.

Visit from Ryan Batchelor MP

On Monday 31 March the Member for Southern Metropolitan, Ryan Batchelor MP, visited the college to view the new building beside the gym. This is a new middle school building which will provide capacity for a further 10 classrooms and a passive recreation area on the roof of the building.

It is exciting to see the slab having been poured in the last week and the panels erected. The SRC students decided on the indigenous art image to go on the outside of the building. The new building will have solar panels on the roof (approximately 11 Kilowatts).

Just a reminder that for the duration of the project our pick-up and drop-off zone on Booran Road next to the netball courts near the site entrance will be available only to Devco and its contractors for construction purposes.

An alternative pick-up and drop-off zone has been created near our synthetic courts on Neerim Road, opposite Heatherbrae Avenue.

The bus stop on Booran Road just south of Miriam Street will remain in use.

Please avoid using Miriam Street as a place to drop off or pick up.

French Consular Visit

Last week we had the privilege to welcome Madame Paule Ignatio, the newly appointed French Consul in Melbourne. She came with Francesco Colonna Romano, the Attaché for Education and French Language from the French Embassy. They met with some of our students from the French immersion and the CNED program as well as the year 10 French students. They were very impressed with our students' engagement and passion for French. We thank them for their visit and support.

Finally

We invite you to have a conversation with your child about their progress reports and/or assessment tasks and help them set goals for themselves to achieve next term.

I trust that the upcoming holiday period will allow you all the opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your support over the last 13 years. It has been an honour and privilege to be a part of the Glen Eira College community. I wish Jane Thornton all the best as Principal of the college from next term.

We look forward to seeing students again on the first day back - Tuesday 22nd April.
