Spotlight on Learning

Year FOUR - Jericho Community

Dear Families,

This week, students explored scriptures about Mary and reflected on her importance within the Catholic tradition. In English, students continued reading Leo and Ralph and responded thoughtfully to events and characters in the novel. We are proud of the positive effort students have shown in their learning throughout the week.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Learning for Year 4

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students reflected on scripture and discussed how its messages connect to their everyday lives. They explored ways to be peacemakers, show peace to others and created posters to share positive messages about peace and kindness.

English:

This week in English, students developed their handwriting and typing skills while building reading fluency through accurate and expressive reading. Students responded to questions about our class novel Leo and Ralph and explored new vocabulary from the text. In writing, students focused on organising and developing their ideas clearly.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students learned how to order and compare mixed numerals using number lines. They practised placing mixed numerals accurately and explaining their thinking when comparing values.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Integrated Studies, students explored different environmental challenges such as pollution, litter and habitat loss. They discussed how these issues affect places, plants and animals, and suggested actions people can take to care for and protect the environment.

Auslan:

In Auslan, students learned how eyebrow movement helps communicate meaning when asking open-ended questions. They practised signing and responding to questions using the correct facial expression with eyebrows down.

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social Emotional Learning, students discussed why it is important to seek help from a trusted adult for serious problems. They identified situations where adult support is needed and explored ways to ask for help safely and confidently.
