Spotlight on Learning
Year FIVE - Bethany Community
Dear Families,
This week, students researched countries within the Asia-Pacific region and explored their geographical features, cultures and connections to Australia. Students worked collaboratively to investigate and present their findings while developing their research and inquiry skills. We are proud of the focus and enthusiasm shown throughout the week.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Mother's and Special Person's Day

Religious Education:
In Religious Education, students learnt about how Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to help and guide His followers. They explored why the Holy Spirit is important for Christians and retold stories from the Bible that show Jesus’ promise and guidance.
English:
Students practised speed loops for the letter ‘f’ and improved their typing accuracy and speed. They learnt to punctuate direct speech when the speaker tag comes before the speech and explored vocabulary and comprehension through our class novel, Dirrarn. Students also strengthened their reading fluency and developed their writing skills by creating complex sentences and planning, writing and editing factual recounts.
Mathematics:
In Mathematics, students learnt to compare and order fractions using parallel number lines. They practised placing proper fractions, improper fractions and mixed numerals accurately on number lines to strengthen their understanding of fraction size and order.
Integrated Curriculum:
In Integrated Studies, students learnt to identify trends and patterns between different countries. They explored similarities and differences using data, maps and information to better understand how countries compare with one another.
Auslan:
In Auslan, students learnt how eyebrow movements help show different types of questions. They practised recognising open and closed-ended questions and used eyebrows down to correctly sign open-ended questions.
Social & Emotional Learning:
In SEL, students explored the importance of trust and courage when seeking help. They discussed how asking trusted people for support can help them feel safe, confident and connected.
