Spotlight on Learning
Year ONE - Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
This week in Religion, students learnt about Mother Mary and reflected on her kindness, faith, and role as the mother of Jesus. Students also learnt more about the birth of Jesus and the Nativity. Students have been enthusiastically exploring directional language through our integrated studies and enjoyed reading "Are We There Yet? " by Alison Lester in English. In Mathematics, students worked on partitioning numbers by breaking them into smaller parts to strengthen their understanding of place value. During Social and Emotional Learning lessons, we focused on help-seeking strategies and discussed the importance of asking trusted adults and peers for support when needed. We are so proud of the curiosity and teamwork students have shown throughout the week.
Mother's Day Celebration
Last Friday morning, we warmly welcomed mothers, grandmothers, aunties and special family members to our Mother’s Day Breakfast celebration. Students joyfully performed Isn’t She Lovely, sharing their confidence and enthusiasm with the audience. Thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the morning such a memorable occasion.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?
