Celebrating the Joy of Reading, Community and Connection

What a wonderful celebration of literature and community we experienced on our Literature Dress-Up Day! The College was filled with colour, creativity, laughter and an incredible sense of school spirit as students and staff brought much-loved literary characters and stories to life.

While the day was certainly about having fun, it also provided a wonderful reminder of the importance and joy of reading. Books open doors to new worlds, introduce us to people and experiences beyond our own, challenge the way we think and help us to develop empathy and understanding. Through literature, we can laugh, wonder, question, imagine and see the world through another person’s eyes. For our young women, developing a love of reading is not simply about academic success; it is about developing curious, compassionate and thoughtful young women who are able to engage meaningfully with the world around them.

The creativity shown in the costumes was exceptional. From clever and minimalist interpretations to wonderfully elaborate characters, our students embraced the opportunity to think outside the box and share their favourite stories in imaginative ways. It was particularly wonderful to see our staff joining in the fun, creating moments of connection and laughter between students and teachers. Days such as these remind us that school is not only a place where we learn together, but a community where we celebrate together.

The enthusiasm and excitement throughout the College were infectious. It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, admiring each other’s costumes and proudly representing their favourite books and characters. The day demonstrated the wonderful spirit within our College and the strength of our community when we come together with a shared purpose. These moments of joy, belonging and connection are an important part of creating a school culture in which every young woman feels valued and knows that she is part of something greater than herself.

As we celebrate the gift of stories and the connections they create, we now look forward to another very special opportunity to celebrate family and relationships.

On Tuesday 1 September, we warmly welcome our fathers, grandfathers and father figures to our Father’s Day Liturgy. Fatherhood takes many forms, but at its heart is the beautiful connection between a father and daughter — the relationship that provides love, encouragement, guidance, strength and a sense of belonging.

For our young women, these relationships can shape how they see themselves and the world around them. A father’s encouragement can give a daughter confidence to have a go; his presence can provide reassurance when life is challenging; and his belief in her can remind her that she is capable of far more than she may sometimes believe.

Our Father’s Day Liturgy provides an opportunity to pause and give thanks for these relationships and for the many fathers and father figures who walk alongside our young women. We look forward to sharing this special celebration with our families and recognising the love, sacrifice, wisdom and unwavering support that fathers and father figures contribute to the lives of their daughters.

Whether through the stories we share, the communities we build or the relationships we nurture, it is these connections that help our young women to grow, belong and flourish. What a privilege it is to celebrate them together as a College community.
