Year 1/2 Unit

It is hard to believe we are already past the halfway mark of Term 2! The weeks are zooming by, and our Grade 1/2 classes have been incredibly busy exploring exciting new concepts.
Science & Inquiry: Forces in Action
Last week, we visited the local Woodend Children’s Park as part of our Inquiry unit on Forces. Students investigated various playground equipment—including the swings, roundabout, flying fox, and slide—to look at how they move, and the forces required to make them work. We had a fantastic afternoon and even managed to dodge the rainy weather!
This hands-on experience fed directly into our literacy learning. Back in the classroom, students wrote explanation texts about their chosen piece of playground equipment. They did a wonderful job detailing how the equipment works and the specific forces involved.
Show & Tell Success
We have also loved seeing the diverse range of toys students are sharing during our daily Show and Tell sessions. It has been fantastic to hear them present with such confidence as they demonstrate how their toys work and the forces required. Thank you for discussing these toys with your children at home beforehand; this preparation has empowered the students and made a massive difference to their presentations.
The learning continues this Friday with a hands-on toy incursion, which the students are highly anticipating with much excitement. These experiences are vital for helping students embed their learning and understand how things work in the world around them.
High-Frequency Words
Finally, thank you for your ongoing support with high-frequency words. Assisting your children with practising these keywords at home has paid off immensely. It has been wonderful to see so many students enthusiastically asking to be tested and enjoying the challenge!
