From the Principal & Assistant Principal

We are now beyond the halfway mark of Term 2, almost halfway through the year. Our teachers are currently working on Semester 1 reports and undertaking summative assessments with their students. As you will be aware from our notification on Compass, our reports will look a little different this term as a result of the AEU industrial action that has recently ceased, with an in principle agreement reached. It will be important for parents/guardians to make time for a parent teacher interview in the final week of term.
Yesterday a wonderful team of volunteers from the Woodend Rotary Club spent the day at our Carlsruhe campus undertaking a working bee. As a school we appreciate the community partnership we have and are grateful for the hard work the team did to improve the environment at Carlsruhe. We are fortunate to live and work in a community where so many people are willing to volunteer their time to support our school.
The Annual Year 4-6 Attitudes to School Survey will be undertaken over the next two weeks, during class time. Information was sent out to parents earlier this term, if you do not want your child to participate in the survey please email the school Woodend.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
Foodbank Victoria continues to deliver fresh fruit for our students to enjoy, which has been greatly appreciated by both staff and students. Teachers are constantly replenishing their classroom fruit baskets, filling them with apples, pears, oranges and bananas.
National Simultaneous Storytime was held yesterday, with all students participating. ‘Luna Roo: Kangaroo Baller’ was enjoyed across all year levels, with some excellent learning tasks being completed. Prizes will be awarded to some lucky students at assembly next Wednesday.
We understand that as the weather has now changed, students are coming home with muddy and wet uniforms. However we remind parents of our student dress code policy. Students are encouraged to follow uniform expectations, if your child is unable to access an item of uniform and comes in wearing a non-uniform item, please send them with a note to the classroom teacher. Recently we have started to see students wearing black pants/shorts and local sporting team hoodies. Uniform items can be purchased via QKR, including secondhand uniforms, we also have access to State Schools Relief funding if required. Please see Kerry or Sue at the office for further information. Parents are also able to purchase affordable plain navy pants and shorts from Kmart, Target etc.
We look forward to continuing to support our students through to the end of this term, please be aware that we are experiencing a period of illness with both staff and students. If your child is unwell please consider if they should be attending school.
