Year 3 - Middle Unit

Aqua Aware Program
This week, students are excitedly awaiting Friday when they begin the Aqua Aware Program at the Kyneton Aquatic Centre. Students have been allocated groups based on their swimming proficiency, as indicated by parents on the form sent home at the beginning of Term 2.
Students will travel by bus to the Kyneton Aquatic Centre each day, commencing Friday, 29th May and concluding Thursday, 4th June, for a 45-minute swimming lesson focused on water safety and swimming proficiency.
Students will need to bring a separate bag containing their swimming gear, including:
A towel
Goggles (optional)
A pair of underwear
We ask that students wear their swimwear underneath their school uniform in the morning. This will assist students in getting onto the pool deck quickly and ensure lessons can begin on time.
The Kyneton Aquatic Centre has also requested that all students wear a swimming cap during the sessions.
Inquiry Project
This term, students will be working in teams to design and build a 1 metre marble obstacle course. The aim of the project is to create a marble run that slows a marble down as much as possible using a variety of materials and clever design ideas. Students will also have the opportunity to test their designs against other teams to see whose marble run is the slowest.
Throughout the project, students will explore important scientific concepts including gravity, friction and momentum. They will investigate how different surfaces and materials affect the speed of a moving marble and apply their understanding to improve their designs.
This hands-on project encourages teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and scientific thinking, while allowing students to experiment, test ideas and learn through trial and error.
Students have also been asked to bring in any spare materials from home that they may be able to use to construct their marble runs.
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday, students took part in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). NSS celebrates literacy, imagination and connection through the joy of shared reading. Each year, a picture book created by an Australian author and illustrator is selected for a nationwide reading event.
This year, students enjoyed Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, written by former football professionals Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, and illustrated by Jake A. Minton. It was a fantastic story that highlighted themes of courage, perseverance and teamwork.
Following the story, students designed their own football (soccer) jerseys, with some drawing inspiration from upcoming World Cup jersey designs.
Please see pictures of the students’ jerseys below:
