Music

We have seen such growth in the music program throughout this year, we sometimes have to remind ourselves how far we have come.

The New York trip, GiJ, and the recent Essentially Ellington Down Under festival have meant that the jazz ensembles have taken a lot of the spotlight, but there has been so much more going on.

Our performances at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod wrapped up this week, with 20 of our ensembles competing. Between them, they brought home 13 awards. More than the awards, though, we have seen how much everyone has improved since last year, and that is so rewarding and satisfying.

There has been a lot of work to get to this point, and I would like to thank everyone, students, teachers and parents for making it happen.

It is this type of dedication and commitment that has a payoff in so many other areas of schooling and life in general. It is no surprise that students involved in these types of activities also tend to do well in other pursuits.

The Royal South Street Eisteddfod is always a significant event for the BHS ensembles, and this year was no exception. Over five days, our students traveled to Founders Theatre in Ballarat to perform and compete alongside a schools from across the state.

This event not only provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents in a new venue and to fresh audiences, but it also allows us to evaluate our progress compared to other music programs and receive valuable external feedback. By observing performances from other schools, our students gain insight into their standing, set new goals, and discover inspiration for new musical pieces.

Once again, both large and small ensembles from our Music Program delivered outstanding performances, returning with a collection of trophies and enriching experiences.
