Term 3 Sport Update
Congratulations to our Year 7 Boys Netball team, who went through Whitehorse, EMR and State Finals undefeated. The boys came into the sport at the Whitehorse level, knowing very little about the game and its rules.
Across the 3 levels of competition, they improved out of sight.
At the State Final, they defeated; Mary McKillop Leongatha (22-7), Belmont HS (17-12) and Dromana SC (18-14) in the preliminary rounds.
They defeated Ballarat High in the Semi-Final (20-4) and then played Belmont HS again in the Final.
It was a really hard-fought game with the lead changing many times.
However, the boys kept their cool and came away with a 19-17 win.
Congratulations Boys!
On Thursday, 26th June BHS Year 7 boys took to the field at Moreton Park in the EMR round robin. A heartbreaking loss in the final seconds in the opening round against Whelers Hill didn’t dampen the spirits of the boys. Pleasingly ,BHS didn’t throw in the towel, and this loss actually galvanised the team making them even more determined in their subsequent victories against Doncaster and Norwood. After the 3 rounds of competition, 3 schools had 2 wins each and 1 draw. To determine the winning team of the pool, calculators came out to work out the percentages. Unfortunately, a goal conceded on the siren against Norwood was the deciding factor in which team would then play Rowville in the Grand Final.
Captain, Eddie H was heroic in the ruck, winning hit outs, clearances, and covering kilometres around the ground whilst also amassing possession after possession and kicking goals. He was well supported by fellow onballers Edward C, Liam F, Mitch S and Jesse W. Zac Z, Euan R, Will P, Jordan H and Jack E were stoic in defence working tirelessly and providing great rebound with their penetrating kicking. Charlie T, Clarence A, Xavier S-K, Max R, Isaac S and Luke W were dangerous targets in the forward line. Despite the shattering loss against Wheelers Hill all BHS players tried their absolute best, behaved superbly and should be proud of their efforts. The future of AFL at BHS is in very good hands with this squad of talented players. BHS are driven to go 1-step further in 2026. Thank you to Year 10 Sport Coaching students Fletcher and Brody who helped coach on the day.

On Wednesday, 30th July BHS Inter boys took to the field at Elgar Park in the EMR round robin. Unfortunately, the team was decimated with up to 15 students declared unavailable due to injury and school exclusion. Fortunately, BHS had a very large squad to choose from due to having both an A and a B-team that competed in the Whitehorse Division in Term 2. It was great to be able to reward those players with selection after good performances for the B-team and more importantly for consistently displaying BHS values, learning norms and behaviours in everyday school life.
BHS were severely undermanned with only 17 players taking the field but relished their underdog status and had one of the great wins in round 1 against Wheelers Hill who had 23 players. BHS then went down fighting with losses to Camberwell and Norwood in the final 2 rounds. All 17 players played the full 90 minutes of allocated game time. BHS should be proud of their efforts, played the games in great spirit and showed high levels of skill and courage through out the day.
