Principal's Report

Congratulations and well done to all students for their effort and hard work throughout Term Three. We are proud not only of their commitment to academic learning but also of their impressive participation in the wide range of co-curricular activities offered at Blackburn High School. In particular, we acknowledge the dedication of students who have been involved in the intense examination period of the past few weeks.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our leadership team, mentor teachers, classroom teachers and education support staff for the care, encouragement and support they provide each day. This work is strengthened by our unique House System, which fosters strong connections and a sense of belonging. At the heart of this system are our Mentor Teachers, who play a vital role in checking in with students each morning to ensure they begin the day with confidence and support.
This term has been filled with student achievements and highlights across many areas. Our music students continued their tradition of excellence with standout performances at the NEVR Concert, South Street Competition and the Spring Music Concert, where we will farewell our talented Year 12 music students. In sport, students also achieved outstanding results, both as individuals and as teams, demonstrating skill, teamwork and determination in the regional and state divisions.
Two Student Progress Conferences were held this term, one for Year 12 students and another for Years 7–11 providing valuable opportunities for families, students and teachers to reflect on progress, celebrate achievements, and identify focus areas for next term. Our student leadership team has also been actively organising events to promote connectedness and healthy inter-house competition. Congratulations to Dunlop House, who were rewarded with a barbecue for winning this term’s house points. The overall House Champion will be announced at our Presentation Day Awards in December.
The process of selecting the 2026 student leadership team is currently underway and will conclude this week. Next term, we will acknowledge the outstanding work of our 2025 student leaders with a morning tea, before officially handing over responsibilities to the 2026 team.
Last week’s whole school assembly, confidently led by our student leaders, was a highlight of the term. It provided an opportunity to celebrate success across a range of areas, including excellent Year 9 NAPLAN results, music and sporting achievements, and the contributions of the Breakfast Club.
We also welcomed our incoming 2026 Year 7 students, who participated in both the EDUTEST assessment, and a transition webinar led by Assistant Principal Ms Jenner. We look forward to welcoming them during the transition workshops in November.
Another significant milestone was the launch of the 2025–2029 School Strategic Plan at our Curriculum Day on 21 August. Staff engaged in discussions on exploring the skills, knowledge and capabilities of the 2026 leadership team that will drive our work over the next four years.
As we conclude this wonderful term, I wish all students, families and staff a safe and enjoyable holiday break.
