Highlighting 7M

7M are a group that can maintain some fantastic behaviours, while allowing for the flair of the many personalities that we have in the class. We have footballers, motorbike riders, horse riders, legendary artists and sailors. Each one of us are unique and we bring a different dynamic to the classroom.

We are constantly developing our ability to effectively regulate our behaviours and be respectful to all members in the class. We have individual rewards, as well as a whole class reward system of Pat Ball on a Friday afternoon.

ENGLISH

In English we are at the tail end of our Poetry unit where the students have been developing their skills in creating and performing poetry. We have developed various poetry styles including: Rhyming Couplets, Acrostic, Sonnet, Ballad, Free Verse and Limericks, some of the description has been fantastic. We also completed some partner work and charades to improve our ability to perform.

MATHS

In Numeracy, we are completing some work on Algebra. We have developed some key terms, as well as engaging in some activities to find the unknown, working with the inverse properties, taking orders from a 7M menu and developing our positive and negative number knowledge. 

DRAMA

The start of Term 3 means that 7M have begun their second semester subjects – one of which is Drama! Over on Wallace Street, 7M have been learning how to communicate without using language, focusing on facial expressions, gesture and movement. They’ve become quite competitive over charades as a result! 7M have also begun to work on their teamwork skills, their creativity, and their ability to let go of how weird something might be and just have fun with it.It will be exciting to see what sort of creative performances this class comes up with.

SCIENCE

In 7M Science, we have explored a range of exciting topics through hands-on activities and experiments. We are currently investigating renewable energy by designing and testing windmills to see which design can lift the heaviest weight. We are also learning how wind turbines generate electricity.

We explored the particle model and how heating affects the movement of particles, while practising how to safely use Bunsen burners. Another highlight was our squid dissection, where we examined the squid’s body parts and organs and learned how they help it survive.

Overall, 7M are having lots of fun in Science, with plenty of opportunities to experiment, investigate and discover how science works in the world around us.

HUMANITIES

In Term 3, students in 7M have been introduced to Civics and Citizenship. Students learn about politics and different types of government structure in countries around the world. They also have learnt about Australian politics, political parties, the role of Constitution, the federal government and the difference between rights and responsibilities.

One highlight of teaching Civics and Citizenship was to prepare a mock election: students need to choose a candidate, create a political candidate party and run for the next election. Students engaged in a presentation of a political campaign of their representative and vote with a ballot paper through preferential voting.

A memorable achievement was when we had a class discussion about right to vote and why in Australia voting is compulsory. Students questioned if the voting system is the same in other countries such as Europe. We had a group discussion about who has the right to vote, how do you apply for citizenship or for a permanent visa.

7M students are polite, respectful and they've developed understanding in how to participate in a History or Civics lesson, how to reflect on causes and consequences of events and how to connect concepts.

TEXTILES

This term, students have been exploring Textiles and designing and creating their own aprons. They have been learning a range of practical sewing skills, including using sewing machines, measuring, pinning, ironing and finishing techniques.

Students are working through each stage of their apron design and are developing their confidence and independence as they bring their ideas to life. We look forward to seeing their completed aprons!
