7B & 7C Students Excel in Learning Hiragana

Since the beginning of this year, our Year Seven students at Parkdale have been learning Hiragana, the first Japanese script. They learn about five of the 46 Hiragana characters each week.

Some dedicated students from classes 7B and 7C took the initiative to master all 46 Hiragana characters independently within just 5–6 weeks. Alongside this, they also learned Japanese greetings, how to introduce themselves in Japanese, counting, and writing numbers using Kanji.

In recognition of their outstanding achievement, the following students have received certificates for their exceptional dedication and rapid progress in learning the Hiragana script independently.

In Term One, Yuzuki Yamamoto supported our Japanese classes as a Japanese language volunteer assistant for three weeks. She created many materials for Japanese students, supported lessons, practice conversation for the Year 12 students, etc.

Farewell message from Yuzuki Sensei

Thank you for accepting me as a Japanese assistant for three weeks. Thank you to everyone at Parkdale Secondary College, I really enjoyed my time here and had many experiences.

I cannot forget the first day at the College. At that time, I was really nervous and worried if I could make it work because this was the first time for me to teach Japanese.

However, everyone welcomed me and called me Yuzuki Sensei, so I was so very happy.

In addition, many students who are studying Japanese, tried to talk with me in Japanese, discussing their interests and many other things about Japan and the language.

I also want to express my gratitude to my host family, Auralia, James, mum Deniz and dad Graham. You showed me a lot of different places in Melbourne and you became my family in Melbourne.

Through these three weeks, I experienced many things and I will treasure all of them for the rest of my life. I hope you continue to enjoy studying at Parkdale Secondary College and expand your future possibilities!

I really appreciate everyone at the College, and I hope to see you again.

 Kind regards,

Yuzuki Yamamoto
