Strengthening Community Connections: Parkdale SC & Mordialloc Rotary Club

At Parkdale Secondary College, we are incredibly fortunate to have a strong and supportive partnership with our local Rotary Clubs. Their dedication to creating enriching opportunities for our students has had a lasting impact, and we are truly grateful for their generosity and commitment.

A special thank you to Di Taranto from Mordialloc Rotary, who has been a tireless advocate for our students—securing sponsorships and opening doors to incredible experiences, both locally and interstate. Thanks to her efforts, four of our students attended the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) in Canberra and Brisbane this year, an inspiring program that broadens students’ horizons in STEM.

This week Amara Ly, Harvey Schlusser, Josie Thornton, and Lachie Wadeson, our NYSF attendees attended a combined Rotary club meeting and spoke about their experiences with such authenticity and enthusiasm that they left a lasting impression on all in attendance. Fielding spontaneous questions from Rotarians with confidence and poise, they made us incredibly proud. Many Rotarians commented on how impressive they were and how valuable the NYSF program has been in shaping their future aspirations.

Upcoming Community Partnerships with Rotary

Our connection with Rotary continues to provide valuable experiences and sponsorship for our students. Here are some exciting upcoming collaborations:

  • Model United Nations Forum – This year’s focus is Climate Change, where students will step into the roles of country representatives, learning about diplomacy, international relations, and global problem-solving.
  • Parkdale Railway Station Community Complex Opening – Our Performing Arts students will showcase their talents with a live music set and a face-painting stall, contributing to this major local event.
  • Rotary Gnome & Fairy Festival – While this beloved community event is on hold due to the Mordialloc rail works, we look forward to being part of it again in 2026.
  • Year 9 CONNECT mock interviews – Our local Rotarians run mock interview panels for our Year 9 CONNECT students to give them practice and feedback in preparation for them as they apply for their first part time jobs.

Our partnership with Rotary is an incredible example of how community, challenge, striving, and achievement go hand in hand. We look forward to continuing to work together to create more meaningful opportunities for our students.

Beyond supporting student experiences, Mordialloc Rotary also extended their generosity to our staff, treating us to a delicious end-of-term morning tea as a thank-you for the work we do in the community. The spread, sourced from local Parkdale businesses, was greatly appreciated!
