Year 3 News

Reading

The Year 3 students ended the term by developing their skills in summarising fiction texts. They enjoyed listening to engaging stories such as The Bad Seed and The Very Cranky Bear. Students were introduced to the SWBST strategy (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then) and gradually progressed from identifying the key parts of a story to using their ideas in full sentences and writing a cohesive paragraph.

Earlier in the term, students focused on making connections with texts. They explored text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections, sharing their ideas and thinking about how texts relate to their own experiences, other texts and the world around them. Students also had regular opportunities to enjoy books they borrowed from the library and share their reading experiences with others.
