Visual Arts
In Visual Art this week, and next week, the students at Craigieburn PS have been learning and creating some beautiful artworks based around the Wurrendjeri seasonal calendar!
We have been fortunate enough to have a guest artist ,and proud aboriginal woman named Nikki Lee Browne, from The Songroom who has been working with every year level to support, teach and educate us all about each of the seasons celebrated by The Wurrundjeri peoples of this local area.
We have been learning about seasons such as:
Poorneet (Tadpole Season)
Biderap (Dry Season)
Luk (Eel Season)
Waring (Wombat Season)
Guling (Orchard Season)
Buarth Gurru (Grass Flowering Season)
Garrawang (kangaroo Apple season)
As part of each season, students have been creating butterflies, moths, and other insects using collage with different patterns and pieces of paper.
Paper cups, string, beads and paint markers have also been used to produce some jumping frogs, tadpoles, and paper bats that move their wings!
Learning about Grass Flowering Season, students learnt about the traditional grasses used by First Nations peoples to weave together baskets and baby carriers, and tools to help every day living.
After learning about this students used weaving techniques and threads such as wool and cotton, to produce intricately designed patterns.
It has been brilliant to see how these students have engaged with the learning and been so lovely towards Nikki!
