Act of Service

Supporting students in Papua New Guinea

In late 2025 our community came together to donate discontinued uniforms, giving them a new life in schools across Papua New Guinea. What began as a practical initiative has grown into a meaningful act of service, strengthening the bonds between our College and its international network of Old Collegians.

At the heart of this effort is Old Collegian Hilda Minado (Class of 1999), who continues to support her local community on Kitava Island in the Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea. Through a partnership with the local Uniting Church and the Rotary Club of Wynnum, uniforms will be transported by Rhonda Lynch and Lynn Swann via cruise ship, where Hilda will undertake a five hour journey by open boat to receive them, an extraordinary testament to her commitment to her students.

The impact will be immediate and profound. Hilda’s entire class, along with several staff members, will proudly wear matching uniforms, fostering a sense of belonging and dignity in their school community.

The balance of the donations are being coordinated by Old Collegians, with Samantha Clarke (Class of 1994) and Dobu Ungureanu (Class of 1997) assisting with delivery to Port Moresby. From there, uniforms will be distributed to communities across Papua New Guinea.

This project is a powerful reminder that our community extends well beyond the College gates. Through the generosity of our families and the dedication of our Old Collegians, these simple garments have become symbols of connection and care.
