Captain’s Corner - Meet Your 2026 Sports Leaders
As we build towards another exciting season of QGSSSA Winter Fixtures, we’re handing the microphone to the students leading from the front.
Captain’s Corner is your chance to hear directly from our 2026 sporting leaders, the voices helping shape the culture, energy and identity of Clayfield College sport. Across the coming weeks, we will profile our captains as they share their sporting journeys, leadership reflections, favourite Clayfield memories and what they are most looking forward to this season. From pre-game routines to words of advice for younger players, this is an opportunity to get to know the students proudly leading our programs in 2026.
Tennis Leaders
Ivy Lauder
Hi everyone, my name is Ivy Lauder, and I am excited to be one of your Tennis Leaders this season. I have been playing tennis for 12 years and have loved every minute of it. My favourite tennis memory was travelling to Spain and training at the Rafa Nadal Academy for two weeks, which was an amazing experience and helped me grow as a player.
This season, my goal is to always try my hardest, have lots of fun and never give up, no matter the challenge. My advice for younger players is to stay positive, work hard and enjoy the process of improving because every training session helps you become a better player.
As a leader, I hope to bring encouragement, enthusiasm and support to all players, helping to create a positive and enjoyable team environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to do their best.
Dana Solomon
My name is Dana Solomon, and I am one of the Tennis Leaders for 2026. I have been playing tennis for over ten years now, and my journey began right here on the Clayfield courts. Throughout these years, my favourite tennis memory would have to be coming second in the Opens team last year. While we fell agonisingly short, I was extremely proud to be a part of this program and represent Clayfield because I knew that everyone had worked incredibly hard to get to where we were. For 2026, it's only onwards and upwards!
One of the things I enjoy most about tennis is the community, and one of my goals for the 2026 season is to help foster a supportive and inclusive environment. It doesn't matter what stage you are at in your tennis journey or which team you play for. In the end, we are all playing the same game, and if I can tell you one thing, support from the sidelines can significantly boost your confidence during a match.
For those who are beginning their tennis journey, my advice would be to make use of the expertise of your coaches. Matt, Dylan and Louis will always answer your questions with clarity and insight. As a Tennis Leader, I want to be a kind and approachable person whom you feel comfortable asking questions, both on and off the court. Tennis can sometimes feel isolating and challenging, but I hope to help create an exciting and welcoming atmosphere for everyone in 2026.
QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures - Reconciliation Round: All In
Clayfield College Sport proudly hosted Somerville House and Brisbane Girls Grammar School for Round 9 of the QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures season, a round that carried significance far beyond the competition itself.
As part of National Reconciliation Week and under this year's theme, All In, our community came together to recognise, honour and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Prior to the commencement of the Touch Football fixtures, students, staff and spectators gathered for a moving Reconciliation Ceremony led by our First Nations students. Alynah Henriksen delivered an Acknowledgement of Country in her traditional language before sharing the acknowledgement in English, providing a powerful reminder of the enduring connection between language, culture and Country.
The ceremony was further enriched by a traditional dance performance from our First Nations students, Alynah Henriksen, Zariah Perry, Lani Sebasio and Libby Sebasio, whose pride, courage and generosity in sharing their culture created a meaningful experience for all in attendance. Their leadership set the tone for the afternoon and highlighted the importance of understanding, respect and reconciliation within our sporting community.
Across the round, our Opens and Senior teams proudly wore the Clayfield College Reconciliation Round uniforms, generously gifted by the Parents & Friends Association. Students also debuted a new Reconciliation Round hair ribbon, honouring the Clayfield College QGSSSA symbol designed by artist Leah Talbot. Worn with pride, the ribbon served as a visible symbol of connection, unity and our commitment to reconciliation.
As Touch Football, Basketball and Football fixtures unfolded throughout the afternoon, the spirit of competition was matched by an even greater sense of respect and togetherness. While teams competed fiercely, Reconciliation Round provided an important reminder that sport has the power to unite communities, create understanding and celebrate diversity.
We extend our sincere thanks to our First Nations students for sharing their culture and leading our community through such a meaningful ceremony. Their contribution helped create a memorable occasion and reinforced the important role that education and sport play in advancing reconciliation.
This season ends with the ladders locked in, but the impact. That plays on.
Senior A Basketball Finish Perfect Season
Perfection is a rare achievement in school sport, but the Senior A Basketball team has done exactly that, completing the 2026 QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures season undefeated.
From the opening tip-off to the final buzzer of the season, the team demonstrated consistency, composure and a commitment to one another. Week after week, they rose to every challenge, combining disciplined defence, selfless teamwork and an unwavering competitive spirit to finish the campaign without a loss.
While the results speak for themselves, the true success of this team lies in the culture they built throughout the season. Their dedication to training, willingness to support one another and pride in representing Clayfield College were evident every time they stepped onto the court.
A special thank you must be extended to Head Coach Brodie Meis, whose leadership, knowledge and commitment have played a significant role in the team's success. His ability to develop both individual players and team cohesion has helped create an environment where students can thrive.
Thank you also to Basketball Coordinator Amy Lewin for her tireless work behind the scenes. Through her organisation, and dedication to the program, our students have been provided with opportunities to participate, develop and enjoy the game of basketball.
Congratulations to our Senior A Basketball team on an exceptional undefeated season.
Hunter Strikes Gold at Regional Cross Country Trials
Xavier Hunter delivered an outstanding performance at this week's Metropolitan North Regional Cross Country Trials, claiming victory in the fiercely contested 16 Years 6km event. Demonstrating both tactical maturity and impressive strength, Xavier crossed the line first to secure his place at the Queensland School Sport State Cross Country Championships to be held in Toowoomba this July. With the regional title now behind him, his focus shifts to preparing for the state championships while also building towards the Athletics Australia National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat this August, where he will compete alongside his sister, Grace Hunter. The months ahead promise exciting opportunities for the talented distance-running siblings as they continue to make their mark on the national stage.
Kyrah Crowned Secondary Champion at SEQ Regional Championships
Equestrian rider Kyrah Breay and her horse, Foxfire Night Music, have continued their remarkable season, claiming the title of Secondary Champion at the 2026 South East Queensland Interschool Queensland Regional Championships.
Held over the May long weekend at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre, the championships attracted 173 riders and 214 horses representing 80 schools from across the region. The event showcased the very best of school equestrian sport, with competitors contesting Dressage, Show Horse and Jumping disciplines in highly competitive fields.
Among the standout performers was Kyrah, whose consistent performances across the championships saw her and Foxfire Night Music awarded the prestigious Secondary Champion title. The achievement is a fitting reward for the dedication, discipline and countless hours of preparation invested by both rider and horse throughout the season.
Kyrah's success at the regional championships has also earned her qualification for the Interschool Queensland State Championships to be held in Warwick from 29 June. She has qualified in Dressage, Show Horse and Combined Training, highlighting her ability to perform across multiple disciplines at a high level.
Before turning her attention to the State Championships, Kyrah will continue her preparation this weekend at the Scots College Equestrian Event in Warwick, where she will compete in Show Jumping and Combined Training.
While this year's State Championships will provide another valuable opportunity to gain experience and enjoy competition at the highest school level, Kyrah's long-term ambitions extend even further. With plans to continue developing her show jumping performances, she has set her sights on national qualification in the years ahead.
Equestrian sport is unique in that success is built upon trust, partnership and an unwavering commitment between rider and horse. Kyrah's achievements alongside Foxfire Night Music are a testament to that partnership and to the dedication required to excel in the sport.
The Clayfield College community congratulates Kyrah on being crowned SEQ Regional Secondary Champion and wishes her every success as she prepares for the State Championships later this month.

Clayfield College was proudly represented by Ava Spizzirri and Winnie Woodcroft at the Metropolitan North Cross Country Trials this week.
Both athletes produced performances, demonstrating determination, resilience and a willingness to embrace the challenge of competing against some of the region's strongest runners.
A special congratulations goes to Winnie Woodcroft, who claimed an impressive third-place finish in her event, securing selection in the Metropolitan North team for the Queensland School Sport State Cross Country Championships in July.
Congratulations to both Ava and Winnie on their achievements. We look forward to following their continued progress and celebrating their cross-country seasons.
