Year 8 Technology

Digital Technologies - Humanoid Robot'

Students were given two lessons to try to manipulate a Humanoid Robot. Students were discovering while using that there are difficulties in using the Robots as the controllers can interfere with other Robots. By using the controller, students were able to do Three challenges.

These were:

  • Dance Off to the song “Mickey”.
  • Sumo
  • Robot wars

Teams were given scores for each of the different events. Scoring was close until the final challenge. The finals scores were Evie & Nevaeh with 81 points, Dynos with 76 points and due to leaving the area during the Robot wars, the Rocket team came in third with 61 points.

Students were asked 3 questions to review the work they had done and came up with their answers below.

What did you like about using the humanoid robot?

“It was fun”

“It was interactive”

“Fun to battle”

“Liked the battle”

What made it hard to us?

“Having trouble with the controller”

“Sensors didn’t work well and but the remote was an issue.”

“Needed to put the arms in a better spot.”

“Issue with the remote and not moving they way we wanted.”

“Issue with the controller.”

Reasons for issues?

“Trouble with getting the controller to work properly.”

“First time using.”

“Interference with other controllers.”

Now that they have experienced what coding is like where there are issues, students will now start to explore how to control a Robot using a coding language. Once they start the coding with their Edison Robots they will start to develop an appreciation for the use of coding.
