We are very fortunate to have multiple Industry Skills Workshops this term, organised and coordinated by Nyoka Prior – Youth Coordinator of Narrandera Shire Council under the ‘Where Do I Go from Here Project’. These are all amazing opportunities for our students to connect with industry representatives and expert TAFE teachers to gain confidence and new skills for life and future employment.

Once we hear dates, we will notify all students who registered to attend. Any students keen to join in this event, are advised to reach out to the Youth Coordinator for Narrandera Shire Council, Nyoka Prior who is the organiser of this event. nyoka.prior@narrandera.nsw.gov.au

TAFE YES Program
Welding
Last week, our students improved on the skills built the previous week, with TAFE teacher Craig Hill extending the students through another engaging workshop. Students’ confidence and skills are building each week completing practical projects. This TAFE YES Program was organised by our TAFE Services Coordinator at Narrandera TAFE – Sheridan Scalli. These industry areas have a shortage of skilled workers across Australia. TAFE have put on these opportunities for our students to gain skills and confidence in this industry. Thank you to Sheridan Scalli for all the advocacy and coordination in providing these opportunities to our school. More photos to come in the next newsletter.

The program enables students to explore all aspects of health careers and provide hands on practical experience in the areas of Nursing, Allied Health and Medicine. SAFEWORK White Card
Construction Safety Courses – Held last week
Last week two groups of students had the opportunity to undertake White Card Construction Safety Training to learn all about jobsite safety and how to develop confidence to speak up and be empowered to advocate for their own safety on jobsites. I am proud of each student who fully engaged in this essential training and completed all requirements to receive their White Card Certificate.
Any students still requiring a White Card are on the wait list and I will organise further training dates at the end of this term or in term 3 depending on trainer availability. The courses are completely subsidised by the Department of Education and so there is no cost for the course itself. However, the SafeWork Licence Card does have a cost of $30 for each student.
*All students will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier Number to participate. I can assist students to obtain this online but will require them to bring in a photo of their Medicare card to obtain this USI. Or students can obtain this themselves by accessing the following website: https://www.usi.gov.au/providers/create-usi-student
University of Canberra UC4 Yourself Day
Wednesday 3rd June 2026
Next week our senior students will be attending the University of Canberra Campus Explore Day. This will be on Wednesday 3rd June. Students have already registered for their chosen activity workshops. This will be a fantastic opportunity for senior students to see university life an learn more about the various courses UC has to offer. All students need to be at school by 5am to depart on time. This will be a one-day excursion leaving at 5am early in the morning and arriving back at approximately 8:30pm to the high school.
Western Riverina Careers Expo
Wednesday 10th June 2026
Leeton High School
On the 10th June our Year 10 group will head over to the Western Riverina Careers Expo at Leeton High School. This expo is an important opportunity for students to begin to gain important information for their upcoming subject selections for their senior studies.
Careers Expos allow students access to the many employers, tertiary providers, and organisations to explore careers opportunities, courses and discuss firsthand with industry experts all aspects of modern career and employment opportunities across the state and in our region. I encourage all of year 10 to attend this event. See the school bytes notes that will be coming out soon.
Year 12 Careers Pathway Interviews
University Early Entry are open for all Year 12 students
We have commenced our Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews this term and I encourage all Year 12 students to book in for their careers planning interview with me. These comprehensive interviews take a minimum of two lessons and are tailored to each student to ensure they have a clear plan and information for their transition to post school life. Students who are looking at university pathways are encouraged to organise their interview as soon as possible so they can have guidance on the various early entry processes offered by each university and how they can respond to the specific requirements of each university and course they aspire to study. If parents would like to attend these meetings, they are welcome to reach out to the careers office to book an appointment after school hours. All parents and guardians are sent a summary of the meetings with their child if they cannot attend in person.
All Careers Events
All these opportunities are always announced to students at our morning assemblies, year meetings and in our newsletters. Any student or parent who has any questions in relation to these activities are welcome to contact the careers office for further information.
