A Good Place

Connecting Youth With Nature
A huge thank you to Murrumbidgee Landcare for delivering the impactful and engaging “A Good Place” program. Over the course of four fantastic sessions, our students have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves deeply in Country, gaining new skills and knowledge while forming meaningful connections with the environment and each other.
This program is designed to foster teamwork, positive interactions, and personal growth by providing a supportive and inclusive environment. It encourages students to collaborate, communicate, and learn from one another, all while developing a stronger connection to both nature and their community.
Last week the group visited the beautiful sandhills of Narrandera. Guided by the wisdom and stories of Wiradjuri Elder Aunty Bonita, students were privileged to listen to rich cultural narratives from her childhood, gaining insight into the history and traditions of the Wiradjuri people. We were also able to touch possum skins and kangaroo skins, learning about their significance and traditional uses, which provided a tangible link to Indigenous culture and heritage.
This experience not only enriched students’ understanding of the local environment and its custodians but also instiled a deep respect for the land and its stories. The “A Good Place” program is truly invaluable in helping our young people appreciate the cultural significance of Country and develop lifelong skills and connections.
Thank you again to Landcare, Aunty Bonita, and everyone involved in making this session such a transformative and inspiring journey for our students.
Yesterday's session focused on the important themes of repurposing and recycling, highlighting how natural fibres and materials—such as wool, cotton, twine, leaves, and other organic elements—can be transformed into beautiful and meaningful creations. Our participants experimented with hands-on techniques, learning firsthand how to breathe new life into what might otherwise be discarded materials. This experience not only fostered creativity and artistic expression but also deepened their understanding of sustainability and responsible resource use. The atmosphere was both relaxing and inspiring, allowing students to connect with nature while exploring innovative ways to reduce waste and champion environmental stewardship.
Through the supportive guidance of the Murrumbidgee Landcare facilitators, students developed new practical skills and were encouraged to think critically about their impact on the environment. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be part of this positive and empowering program that nurtures a love of nature, promotes sustainability, and strengthens community connections. These sessions are invaluable in helping our young people grow as thoughtful, creative, and environmentally conscious individuals.
Thank you to everyone at Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc for leading such an enriching experience. We look forward to continuing this journey of learning and connection in future sessions.
