Principals Message

Narrandera High School continues to offer a variety of opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate their leadership skills throughout the year. Our approach aims to provide students from different backgrounds and interests with experiences that will help them become confident and capable leaders, both within the school and in the broader community.
Most recently, school captains Hannah Beer and Matari Johnson represented Narrandera High School at the Parliament of NSW School Leadership Program in Sydney. This state-wide program gave students insight into how the NSW Parliament operates and allowed them to interact with student leaders from schools across New South Wales. Participating in the program offered Hannah and Matari a valuable opportunity to observe discussions and debates, expand their understanding of governance, and network with their peers. Thank you to Mrs Donaldson for accompanying and supporting the students during this experience.
Our Student Representative Council, NHS VOICE (Voice, Opinions, Ideas, Community, Engagement), recently participated in a leadership development session with staff from Charles Sturt University. The session focused on practical skills, including communicating clearly, putting forward ideas effectively, and collaborating with others in a group setting. Feedback from students was positive, with many highlighting the engaging activities and increased confidence in expressing their views. These sessions help students see the impact they can make by actively participating and working together. Thank you to Mrs O’Mahoney for her organisation and coordination of this event.
We are also pleased to announce the recent formation of the Dyiraamalang Committee—a dedicated Aboriginal leadership team established in conjunction with Narrandera Public School. This new initiative brings together students from both schools to discuss and plan a range of cultural activities, strengthening connections and supporting respectful collaboration. The Dyiraamalang Committee is being developed and refined in partnership with the schools’ Aboriginal Education officers: Joy O’Hara, Braden Lyons, Simone Ingram, and Richard Gilbert. Their guidance ensures the committee remains a supportive environment that champions Aboriginal culture and student voices.
Leadership is encouraged at Narrandera High School through these programs, as well as through classroom activities, extracurricular events, and community engagement projects. The school is committed to providing students with pathways to build confidence, develop public speaking and teamwork skills, and take on new responsibilities. These opportunities help ensure students can influence decisions, represent their peers, and make meaningful contributions to the school environment.
Narrandera High School looks forward to continuing to support and expand student leadership opportunities in the future.
Ms Tania Maddison
Principal
