Year 4 Gardening Program

Dear students and parents,

Let’s give you an opportunity to catch up on what’s been happening in Year 4 gardening! We have been doing worm farm, shredding, planting, weeding, watering and doing the announcements for compost on Wednesday and Friday.

Our favourite thing to do in gardening is planting, worm farm and watering. We learnt how to make flower pots out of newspaper and how to reuse stuff.

In gardening we plant, weed, collect compost and shred paper. We grow trees and we look after the worm farm. We get the used spare paper from the classrooms, we shred it, then we give the shredded paper  to the worms in the worm farm. The worms move around for a bit then we collect the worm wee. We use it like a homemade fertiliser to help the tree or plant to grow faster.  We planted a plum tree so we pulled the weeds out to make more space for it.

Recycling is important because it is saving the environment, but there are different things that we can reuse instead of putting them straight into the recycling bin.

For example, a plastic bottle can be turned into plant holders and soil shifters.
