2022-2026 School Review Completion - A Strong Foundation for the Future

I am pleased to share with our community that Black Rock Primary School has recently completed its Department of Education School Review process. This important milestone occurs every four years and provides an opportunity to reflect on our progress, celebrate our achievements, and set a clear direction for continued improvement.

The review process is both rigorous and collaborative. It involved classroom observations, professional discussions, and analysis of a wide range of school data. Importantly, it also included the voices of our students, staff, and families through surveys and focus groups. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed so thoughtfully and generously to this process. Your input plays a vital role in shaping the future of our school.

The review panel, comprising an external reviewer, peer principals and our Senior Education Improvement Leader, affirmed many of the strengths we value at Black Rock Primary School. These include our strong and positive school culture, underpinned by our values of Kindness, Aspiration, Respect and Integrity; the high level of commitment and professionalism of our staff; and our clear focus on evidence-informed teaching practices.

The panel also recognised the positive learning outcomes achieved by our students, including continued growth in literacy and numeracy, and the inclusive and supportive environment we provide for all learners.

As with any high-quality review, the process also identified areas for further development. These are not shortcomings, but opportunities to strengthen our practice even further. Key areas of focus include continuing to build consistency in high-impact instructional practices across all classrooms, deepening staff understanding of the science of learning and curriculum development, and strengthening our multi-tiered system of supports to ensure every student receives the right level of challenge and support.

These findings will directly inform the development of our next School Strategic Plan, which will guide our work over the next four years. Our focus will remain firmly on delivering high-quality Tier 1 classroom instruction, investing in ongoing professional learning for staff, and continuing to improve outcomes for every student. We will also maintain a strong emphasis on student wellbeing and inclusion, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported and able to thrive.

The review has confirmed that Black Rock Primary School is on a strong and positive trajectory. We are proud of what we have achieved together and excited about the opportunities ahead. Thank you once again for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s education. We look forward to continuing this journey together.

Congratulations to our Foundation students on celebrating a very successful first 100 days of school. We are incredibly proud of all that you have achieved in this time—learning, growing and becoming valued members of the BRPS community. A sincere thank you to our Foundation teachers for the care and expertise they bring to nurturing each child’s learning and wellbeing, and for organising such a wonderful celebration on Wednesday 29th July.

Book Week 2026 – Symphony of Stories

Black Rock Primary School is excited to celebrate Book Week from Monday 24 to Friday 26 August. This year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories,” highlights the way stories come together to inspire imagination, creativity and a love of reading.

Throughout the week, students will engage in a range of classroom activities exploring quality literature, including titles shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. These experiences support our ongoing focus on developing strong, capable readers while nurturing a genuine enjoyment of books.

A highlight of the week will be our Book Week Dress-Up Parade at 9:00am on Wednesday 26th August. Students are invited to come dressed as a favourite book character, and families are warmly welcome to attend and enjoy the celebration. As well as the excitement of the book parade, also  expect to hear about our 'Readathon' results and other special announcments on the day.

Book Week is a wonderful reminder of the important role reading plays in every child’s learning journey. We thank our staff for their planning and our families for supporting their children to take part in the festivities.

We look forward to a joyful week of stories at Black Rock Primary School.

Trivia Night & Dance Lights Social - Black Rock Sports Club - Saturday 8th August

What an incredible night at our BRPS Trivia Night & Dance Party!

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful school community, we raised over $4,000 for our school. More importantly, it was a fantastic night of fun, laughter and connection.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors, everyone who attended, and all those who purchased raffle tickets or bid on our silent auction items. Every contribution helped make the fundraiser such a wonderful success.

We also extend a huge thank you to Maddy Gair and the CEET Committee for the considerable planning and organisation that went into the night, as well as everyone who contributed their time and talents through MC’ing, DJ’ing and helping out behind the scenes.

We are incredibly grateful for the support, generosity and community spirit that made the night such a fun and successful celebration of our BRPS community.
