This Term our students will explore the musical elements of Beat, Pitch, Dynamics and Tempo. They will move and dance to music with a steady beat and music with no beat. For example, the students will participate in Tempo exercises such as The Pony Gallop and The Shearers’ Skip. To explore Dynamics, they will sing the song When We Wash The Dishes, and to explore Pitch, they will sing the song A Trip To The Moon. 

 

Year 1

 

This Term students will be involved in the musical elements of Dynamics, Tempo and song and sound classifications. They will be involved with chorus and verse, responding and playing to loud and soft sounds and dancing to fast or slow music and sorting sounds. For example, they will move slowly or rapidly to the song On My Pony, sing to the loud or soft song Who Is It? and explore verse and chorus structure to the song My Bonnie. 

 

Year 2

 

Students this term will explore Pitch, Sound Symbols, Symbol Sequences and Sound Scaping. They will compose ostinatos and dance to the song Mr Ice Cream Man. They will also create their own symbols to a series of different sounds, and move to a sequence of sound symbols that they have composed. They will also create a soundscape to the soundtrack Ocean Soundscape. 

 

Year 3 

 

This term, students will be involved in the music element of Exploring Sound. They will explore Mouth Music, Sound Words, Short and Long Sounds and Vocal Rhythms. They will learn the song The Sound of Your Voice, add vocal effects to the verse Rumble in The Jungle, add instruments to the song Noises in My Head, and play the Short and Long Sounds game Sounds in the Round. 

 

 

 

Year 4

 

This term, students will explore the musical element of Musical Pictures. Students will create images to show moods, feelings and emotions suggested by different musical pieces and visual imagery. Students will create a piece of music to the images Rush Hour and a Storyboard, and create movement to the soundtrack of Silent Movie. They will also create sound effects for a short video Funny Foley. 

 

 

 

Year 5 and 6 

 

This term, students will explore Latin Music and Blues Music. They will experience Latin Rhythms through listening, singing and playing songs such as Mambo Gumbo, The Rhymers’ Waltz and performing a Mardi Gras. They will also experience Blues Music through moving and playing to The Bo Diddley Beat and improvising in the song Late For School Blues.
