Introducing Brittany Giles,

DSC School Captain, 2012

Since leaving school, Brittany has completed her Masters in Social Work, which was a massive achievement considering she describes not being “best of friends with education”.

Starting her career working alongside an Aboriginal community of Melbourne, she’s also been lucky enough to work in the USA and Canada, whilst also exploring and learning from people in South East Asia, Central America and North America.

Now working with a wide variety of people, many of whom are facing extraordinary challenges, Brittany explains how much she has learnt and continues to learn from these people and how they remind her to be grateful for what she has.

Her career, travels and personal experiences have taught her that “we all have something to teach one another. We just have to be open and willing to learn from everyone and anyone around us.”

When asked whether she had advice for the current DSC students, she said that the things that seem like a big deal whilst at school such as a low score in a maths test or not being invited to someone’s party in hindsight are so irrelevant and unimportant, and shouldn’t be stressed over. Surrounding yourself with positive, driven and like-minded people will help you when you are feeling these ‘losses’. Post-school it is not these ‘losses’ that you will remember but rather, all the wins.
