Dante Alighieri Poetry Finals Competition

Shining a spotlight on our Nazareth Finalist: Alex Raso (Andrea Miljanic away on family holiday)

I was one of the few people chosen to represent Nazareth College at the Dante Alighieri Poetry competition at Melbourne University. I spent a lot of time practising my poem and improving my pronunciation before the competition. All of the practice helped me feel more prepared and confident on the day. Overall it was a great opportunity to build my confidence, improve my Italian and represent the school.

Year 8 Visual Communication Design

Expanding their knowledge of different drawing methods relevant to Visual Communication Design, students in Year 8 VCD last term concluded their studies with Isometric Drawing. This three-dimensional drawing method is primarily used in documentation drawing, to bring to life two-dimensional drawings such as Third Angle Orthogonal Drawings. However, in recent times, it has been regularly used in video games and typography. For the task at hand, the Year 8 students were challenged to pick a four or five lettered word, and using a carefully constructed two-dimension alphabet, they were to convert the word into an Isometric view and then render it using markers. New Outdoor Gym Complete and Ready to Use!

Our Year 11 Product Design and Technology class has successfully completed the design and construction of the brand-new outdoor gym for the school grounds — a free, all-weather fitness station that students can enjoy during recess, lunch, and Physical Education classes.

From the initial concept sketches and planning stages through to fabrication, assembly, and installation, this project has been entirely student-led. The result is a functional, durable, and exciting new addition to our school, showcasing the creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and technical skills of our students.

Thank you again to the NCCA for their financial contribution! Their constant support and commitment continue to make a meaningful difference the Nazarene community.

🎸VET Music Industry (Performance)

This exciting VET course equips students with the skills to rehearse, perform, and collaborate as musicians while developing confidence, stagecraft, and industry knowledge. Through live performances and practical learning experiences, students gain valuable insight into the music and entertainment industry.

🎤Our VET Music Industry students began to brainstorm a class prayer that we could sing at the beginning of each class. This term students will engage in song writing and they will begin to write their own songs.

Nazareth Breakfast Club in Focus

We are pleased to share that Nazareth College has been selected as this month’s

Vic Kids Eat Well Monthly Lucky Bite Reward Winner for completing the "Fuel the Fun with Low Sugar Cereals" bite!

This recognition celebrates our commitment to promoting healthy eating habits and helping our students get the best possible start to their day with our Breakfast Club.

As part of this achievement, we received a $150 Kitchen Warehouse digital voucher with which we have purchased new cutlery and cooking utensils.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to creating a healthy school environment for our students! 🍎 And a massive shout out to Nurse Mel for entering Nazareth College into the competition!

Year 8 English - Term 2 Wrap up

To complete their term of learning poetry in Year 8 English; our Knowledge students participated in a ‘Limerick Debate’. Essentially (for those not familiar), the students were split into teams, provided their topic, and told that they could only argue their point in limerick form. Students were given two lessons to prepare their arguments (plus practice time) and the big event was held during class on 26 June.

The students were ecstatic when Renee from the Maintenance Team, Ms Nailon, Ms Kol and Mr Cosentino walked through the door as their secret judges for the day.

The two topics that were debated by our students were:

🦄‘Are Unicorns cooler than Dragons?’ and

🍕‘Should pizza be counted as a vegetable because it has tomato sauce?’.

As you can appreciate Nazarenes, these topics were hotly contested. Students were marked on their writing, performance, humour and overall argument. Battle lines were drawn, mic drop moments ensued and names were taken. The students demonstrated keen creativity, passionate displays of drama and humour even the best of Australian comedy would struggle to compete with. It was a fantastic way to end a semester of learning. I could not have been more proud of my students.

Dandenong's Got Talent

On Thursday 9 July, during the Term 2 school holidays, I had the privilege of attending Dandenong's Got Talent and witnessing two of Nazareth College's talented students perform on stage. Emily Diaz (Year 9, MacKillop 7) and Anthony Nguyen (Class of 2025) both competed in the Cover Songs category.

The standard of performance throughout the event was exceptional, with participants showcasing their talents across a range of categories including music, dance and band performances. It was a rich and inspiring display of the remarkable abilities of young people under the age of 25.

Emily and Anthony demonstrated outstanding courage, confidence and musical talent as they performed before a full audience of parents, family members and peers. Their willingness to share their God-given gifts on such a public stage is to be commended.

On behalf of the Nazareth College community, I congratulate Emily and Anthony on their wonderful performances. They represented themselves, their families and our College with pride, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

📝Year 9 Scavenger Hunt

As I was sprinting through the courtyard being chased by a pack of Year 9 students, two thoughts perforated my consciousness. Firstly, I don’t think my hammy is supposed to feel like that… And secondly, why do my students take so much pleasure in hunting me down? Please be assured parents, friends and colleagues of Nazareth, I am well and I agreed (nay created) this problem myself.

To fill in the gaps a little here, let me provide some context. My Year 9 P.E students have been angels this term with high levels of participation and engagement displayed by all. To reward them for such a great effort, I created a scavenger hunt around the school which they completed during their final lesson of the semester.

Now you may be thinking, “But Miss Giblin, is it like every other scavenger hunt known to man?” No dear reader, this scavenger hunt requires the students to use all available skills known to them to complete – plus prizes for the team with the most number of points was up for grabs.

Students had thirty-five minutes to complete a variety of challenges across the school, some which are listed below:

➡️Locate certain staff members and ask for secret passwords, answers to specific questions and special signatures

➡️Track down room codes, key dates and hidden objects located around the school

➡️Stocktake equipment

➡️Conduct a news like interview with a staff member

➡️Pass a uniform check

➡️Collect flora, lost property and a piece of rubbish

➡️Perform ‘parkour’

➡️Shoot a three pointer in basketball

And last but not least:

➡️➡️Catch Miss Giblin to acquire the secret word…she WILL try to run away.

Well done to my students for a fantastic term of P.E, I hope they had as much fun as I did!

🎮Naz eSports Club

The eSports Club has become a popular lunchtime activity, providing students with a space to socialise, compete and enjoy gaming together. Located alongside the LEGO Workshop, the club welcomes students of all year levels and experience levels.

Students primarily use the club's Nintendo Switch consoles to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with Mario Kart, Overcooked and Untitled Goose Game also available for those looking for something a little more cooperative. Students are also welcome to bring their own gaming consoles or laptops to enjoy multiplayer games with friends.

While the games are what bring students together, the club is really about building community. It provides an opportunity for students to meet others with similar interests, develop positive sportsmanship and simply enjoy their lunchtime in a welcoming environment.

Thank you to the staff who volunteer their time to supervise the club each week. Their support allows us to continue offering this opportunity for our students.
