Year 7 retreat: Embracing the spirit of Presentation People
On Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May, our Year 7 students gathered at the New Town Bay Rowing Sheds for their annual retreat. Centered around the theme of 'Presentation People', the retreat invited students to explore the core Presentation touchstones of hospitality, compassion and simplicity.
Through a variety of activities, including group discussions, creative crafts, meditation and team building, students reflected on how these values shape life at St Mary's College and how they are called to live out the charism of Nano Nagle in today’s world.
The retreat also offered a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen friendships and build a deeper sense of community as a Year 7 cohort.
Students dive into marine studies
Year 10 Environmental Education students, together with Year 9/10 Marine students, recently enjoyed an excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre.
The day was split into two engaging parts: a half-day marine exploration aboard a boat and a half-day of hands-on learning at the Sustainable Learning Centre.
While on the boat near Bruny Island in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, students collected biotic data through a dredging activity and gathered abiotic data by measuring the temperature, salinity, turbidity and pH of the surrounding marine water.
Back at the centre, students explored the fascinating adaptations of marine animals in the touch tank and investigated Antarctic food webs, deepening their understanding of ecological relationships and environmental science.
