Celebrating gymnastics rise to the challenge at Tasmanian State Championships

The recent Tasmanian Senior State Gymnastics Competition was a shining moment for our talented gymnasts, who competed with incredible grit, grace and determination.

Gymnastics is one of the most demanding sports, requiring strength, power, agility, flexibility, mental toughness and years of disciplined training. Our athletes demonstrated all of this and more as they rose to the challenge on the state stage.

Six students from St Mary’s competed: Hannah Grzinic (Level 8), Nicola Quinn (Level 8), Evie Farrell (Level 7), Jorgia Eyles (Level 7), Lillian Ryan (Bigham Cup Trial, Level 6) and Lara Barwick, with each showcasing their dedication, courage and resilience, especially in such a high-pressure, competitive environment.

Nicola, competing in WAG Level 8 this year, showed tremendous perseverance as she battled injuries yet still delivered strong performances. She achieved 5th place and two 6th places on individual apparatus – a remarkable effort under tough circumstances.

Hannah also competed in Level 8 and matched Nicola’s success with a 5th place and two 6th places in the individual events. Hannah’s club, Eastside Gymnastics, achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the team event, despite having only three team members – a fantastic result that highlights both teamwork and individual excellence.

In Level 7, Evie delivered a standout performance, earning 3rd place on bars, 4th on floor and 4th overall in the state. Her results are a testament to her skill and composure across multiple apparatuses. Jorgia represented her club with focus and determination, achieving 2nd on beam and 3rd in the team competition.

Fellow SMC student, Lara, secured 4th place on the beam, demonstrating poise and balance in one of the sport's most challenging events. Also competing wasLillian, who participated in the Bigham Cup Trial (Level 6 and impressed with her dedication and consistency as she works toward national-level goals.

We are incredibly proud of all our gymnasts for their achievements and the way they competed with spirit, resilience and sportsmanship. Congratulations!
