News from the Rowing Sheds
Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator
With the winter season upon us, things have been a little quieter at The Sheds. However, training and preparation for the 2025/2026 season are underway.
Fleet inspection
Recently, the fleet of rowing shells was inspected as part of our ongoing repairs and maintenance. Several smaller maintenance items were identified, which will be worked on during the winter break in readiness for next season. Some other identified repairs will need more expertise to remediate. We are awaiting a full report and quote for this work. We will prioritise this list and get the work done before next season.
On-water training
With the fleet being inspected for annual repairs and maintenance, we will hold off on any water sessions until the repairs report is received. Having the shells as dry as possible prior to repairs was a suggestion by the repairer. I am hoping to start the on-water sessions prior to the July school holidays.
Winter training
Winter training gym sessions are well underway. Approximately 20 rowers are attending these sessions to keep their strength and fitness up during the winter break. It has been great seeing some of our new recruits joining in these sessions also. If you would like to join in the sessions during Term 3, please let Mr Pinelli know.
New recruits
We are looking for new recruits in the older years. If you are currently in Years 9, 10 or 11 and would like to have a go at rowing during the wintertime, please contact Mr Pinelli at apinelli@smc.tas.edu.au
