Winter uniform reminders
As the winter chill settles over Hobart, it is important that our students stay warm and comfortable while continuing to wear their uniform with pride. Fortunately, our uniform policy offers several practical options to help students stay warm during the colder months.
Layering for warmth
Students are encouraged to layer appropriately under their uniforms. Thermals or plain undergarments worn beneath shirts and dresses can provide extra warmth without compromising the uniform’s appearance. The College blazer remains a compulsory outer layer for formal occasions and travel to and from school, and a smart, warm option for winter days.
Approved winter accessories
The following winter accessories are permitted:
PE day and practical comfort
On designated PE days, students wear the full PE uniform, including track pants and sports shoes. This provides a comfortable and warm option for active days.
Thank you for helping us maintain the high standards of St Mary’s College while ensuring our students are well-prepared for the season. Let’s continue to foster a community where warmth, pride and care go hand in hand.
Year 11/12 Course Information Evening
Our senior students recently took part in the Southern Catholic Colleges Careers Expo, where they engaged in inspiring conversations about future career pathways and explored opportunities with a range of local industry representatives. The College is continuing this journey for our current Year 10 and 11 students on Thursday 12 June with the 2026 Course Information Evening.
Students and their families are warmly invited to the Student Resource Centre (library) for a 6.00pm start, where they’ll receive valuable information about college life at SMC. Following this, guests will be invited upstairs to our Women in Science Centre, where they can meet our Learning Leaders and Student Leaders. There, they’ll explore course samples and gain insights into the specific subjects that will be offered in 2026. This opportunity allows students in Years 10 and 11 to discuss their suite of courses for 2026 and see the possibilities for academic, practical and active courses. We are looking forward to welcoming the 2026 Year 11 and 12 students on 12 June.
Year 11 and 12 Music
On Friday 30 May, the College’s senior musicians took to the stage at Live at St Peter’s, delivering an impressive showcase of their talent and musical excellence in St Peter's Hall. Accompanied by Mr Scott Weston, Mr Michael Power and Mrs Jill Norton, the students performed pieces they had been rehearsing for their TASC and UTAS courses. Ranging from piano, cello and musical theatre to '90s rock bands, the students were confident, well-rehearsed and polished in their respective performances. It was great to see the cross-campus collaboration with the students studying at the College from St Aloysius Catholic College. Thank you to the Music department for your commitment to the Performing Arts.
Friday 6 June | Statewide TASC Moderation
This Friday, several teachers will participate in statewide moderation for the TASC courses offered at the College. These meetings are a collaboration with Catholic, independent and government colleges to ensure consistency and equity amongst the delivery and assessment of TASC courses within and across schools. The day also provides time for Year 10, 11 and 12 students to study for their exams, which commenced this week with the Year 10 English exam on Tuesday.
Reporting and learning conferences
As we reach the mid-point of Term 2, teachers are working on updating student progress through feedback and preparation for mid-year reporting. Junior School families will be welcomed to the College on Tuesday 10 June and Wednesday 11 June for their mid-year learning conferences. Booking details were shared on Connect on Monday 2 June. Senior School conferences are separated into Year 11/12 and Year 7–10 in Term 3.
The College mid-year reports will be available for families on Friday 4 July via Connect. A preview of the report is included below. It’s important to note some significant changes, including the removal of classroom comments for Junior School Class Teachers, and Senior School Pastoral Care Teachers. As a result of this, learning conferences and continuous feedback are essential to your child's education.
