Key information and upcoming events for our SMC community.

Student Free Day | Friday 6 June

A friendly reminder to our community that Friday 6 June is Moderation Day and a student-free day for Kinder to Year 12.

Moderation ensures all students across Tasmania are being assessed against the same benchmarks, and that student assessments are comparable across schools.

While there will be no classes on this day, the Student Services office will remain open from 8.00am–4.00pm for any enquiries.

We hope our students enjoy their extra-long weekend! Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday 10 June, following the King's Birthday public holiday on Monday 9 June.

School photo update

We’ve heard from the photography company, and they’ve let us know that photo orders are expected to be delivered to families by the end of Term 2.

Thank you for your patience. We are looking forward to seeing those smiling faces soon!

Lost property reminder

We’ve noticed an increase in lost property and would really appreciate your help! Is your child missing any items, like a school jumper, lunchbox, drink bottle, or other belongings? Please take a moment to check our lost property bins:

  • Junior School: Located at the entrance to Year 1, just past the Junior School office.
  • Senior School: Outside the Director of Senior School’s office.

We also kindly ask that you take a few minutes at home to check if you might have any school items, particularly jumpers and jackets, with someone else’s name on them? If so, please return them to school at your earliest convenience. Many families are currently searching for missing items.

To help us return items more easily, please ensure all belongings are clearly labelled, especially second-hand items.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community organised!

The Push-Up Challenge

St Mary’s College is proud to be taking part in headspace's The Push-Up Challenge from 4–26 June, raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Olivia Hunniford-Webb, our Year 12 Prefect for Wellbeing, shares why this cause matters and why we're getting involved.

As the Wellbeing Prefect, I’m excited to help lead this initiative that brings our community together for such an important cause.

Every lunchtime at 1.00pm, students will gather on the College Green in their House groups to complete 55 push-ups together. Over the campaign's 23 days, the Senior School aims to complete a total of 3,214 push-ups, representing the number of lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2023.

The Junior School will also be joining in by taking on their own version of the challenge. Students in Years 3 to 6 will aim to complete 500 push-ups during daily PE over the three weeks.

To celebrate everyone's efforts, we’ll finish the challenge with a whole-school sausage sizzle on Thursday 26 June – bring along a gold coin donation to support our local headspace centre.

We’re incredibly proud of our students for pushing themselves, both physically and mentally, to support one another and raise awareness for such an important issue.

Let’s keep encouraging open conversations about mental health and continue showing up for our community.
