Students have been using their growing letter and sound knowledge to begin writing their own simple sentences.

🔤 Phonics

We have now finished learning all of our Stage 1 sounds. Students are spending time practising these sounds by:

  • Writing each letter correctly
  • Blending sounds together to read words (e.g. c-a-t → cat)
  • Segmenting sounds to spell words (breaking words into sounds)

🔢 Maths

In Maths, students have been continuing to build their counting skills through subitising. Subitising means being able to quickly recognise how many items there are in a small group without needing to count them one by one (for example, knowing there are 3 dots on a dice just by looking).Students have also been practising how to correctly write their digits, focusing on number formation.

✝️ Religion

Students have been learning about the important events of Holy Week. Holy Week is the special time in the Church when we remember the days leading up to Easter and the story of Jesus. We explored the story of Jesus Washing the Feet, learning about kindness and serving others, and students enjoyed role-playing The Last Supper together.

We have also been learning about people supported by Caritas. This week, students heard about Manorajon, a farmer from Bangladesh who lives with his wife and two children. Inspired by his story, students planted seeds, just like the ones Manorajon cares for, helping them understand the importance of hope, care, and helping others.

✍️ Fine Motor Skills

Students have been strengthening their fine motor skills by participating in a range of hands-on activities, including using playdough, threading beads, building with LEGO and creating sticker pictures. These activities help develop the small muscle movements needed for writing and everyday tasks.
