Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One
It really does feel like the term just teleported from week 1 to week 8 š
This point in the term is less about time flying and more about how learning is unfolding. By now, students have moved past the ānewnessā of the course and are expected to engage more deeply, connecting ideas, applying skills, and working more independently.
Inquiry:
In Inquiry, students have been exploring geography by creating their own maps of Australia. As part of this learning, they have identified the country they live in and practised naming and labelling all the states and territories of Australia. This activity has helped students build their understanding of Australiaās structure and develop their mapping skills.
Literacy:
In our Fairytales unit, students have created storyboards, cut and pasted sentences, and practised using sentence starters with correct punctuation, capital letters, and full stops. They have also been re-reading their work to ensure it makes sense.
Students explored story structure by identifying the beginning, middle, and ending, and wrote about a time they were like The Three Little Pigs, showing problem-solving and perseverance.
Maths:
In Maths, students are developing strong number skills to 20. They are learning to partition numbers into two and three parts, label discrete bar models, and write number bonds.
Students are also practising how to use the addition (+), subtraction (ā), and equals (=) symbols to show that amounts are equal. They have been building confidence in writing addition and subtraction fact families within 20.
Itās great to see students growing in their understanding of how numbers work together!
Religion:
Students have been learning about Lent and the importance of giving, praying, and forgiving through Project Compassion. They explored how Caritas helps people around the world and discussed Easter traditions, including special meals and celebrations.
Students also shared their own Easter traditions, building connections between their learning and personal experiences.
OurĀ Easter Hat Parade will take place onĀ Monday, March 30th. Students are asked to create their Easter hat at home with their families.Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us atĀ 9:00am in the Knock Centre (Sports Hall) to watch the parade. We canāt wait to see all the creative designs!
