Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The 2026 Premiers' Reading Challenge has begun! Next week,  students will have the opportunity to log in to their portals and will begin to track their reading! Your child will bring home their personal log-in details and a slideshow of step-by-step instructions will be shared, explaining how to navigate the website. The yearly event promotes reading for enjoyment and is a wonderful opportunity for children to track their reading while trying out new books.

The Premiers' Reading Challenge portal is a place for children to record the titles of the books they have read, after they log in for the first time. It is not a place where you can access digital books. Students must read books that they have at home, at school or from the local library.

This year's VPRC theme is 'Stories to discover. Stories to tell.'

What have we been writing about in our junior classrooms at OLSC?

Prep - Our youngest students have been listening to stories from the Little Learners Love Literacy Pip and Tim series. They have used illustrations to retell the stories and, using the sounds and letters they have been learning, wrote the names of the characters to match.

Year 1/2s - In the 1/2 classrooms, students have been listening to a variety of traditional fairy tales, including Cinderella, The Gingerbread Man, and The Little Mermaid. Following on from this, the children were shown a picture of many of the characters found within these tales and they then had the opportunity to write their own stories.
