A Word from Justin
Term 1, Week 8 - Friday 20th March, 2026
Dear Families of OLSC
I hope you are well on the eve of the long weekend. Have a relaxing day off on Monday and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and raring to go on Tuesday!
This past week has been Catholic Education week. This year’s theme celebrated the significance of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of our local Cathedral in the city. Last year, as part of our Jubilee Year and Catholic Education Week, a striking new icon and depiction of Saint Patrick was unveiled and blessed by Archbishop Peter A Comensoli in front of thousands of students, educators, and special guests.
Our school captains and social justice leaders along with myself and John attended the Annual Mass of St Patrick for Schools which took place on Friday 20 March 2026. Almost all schools in the archdiocese were represented and I congratulate our student leaders for the impressive way they represented OLSC. The mass was followed by the Concert in the Park led by school bands from catholic secondary schools in Melbourne's west.

Its that day of the year when staff get up a little earlier to iron their outfit of the day and the

students rock up to school with hair done and uniforms neat and tidy - school photo day.
The staff photo will be taken at 8:00 so please be patient if the gates are not unlocked until right on 8:30. Indiividual photos will follow the class group shots and then siblings will be called after these are completed.
Many of the Year 3 students will complete the sacrament of reconciliation for the first time this Wednesday 25th March. This sacrament of healing will be the first sacrament since baptism for our students and all are welcome to attend this faith milestone. It will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:30 in the Sports Centre.
This coming Friday night (27th March) the parish will hold a Stations of the Cross prayer service on the church block next to school. I encourage anyone who is able to come along to this event.
The Stations of the Cross (also called the Way of the Cross) are a deeply meaningful devotion in the Catholic Church that leads us to reflect on the suffering, death, and love of Jesus Christ. This event was held at the church block last year for the first time and was very prayerful and successful.
Next Thursday April 2nd we have a school closure day. The staff will be undertaking professional learning on this day at school.
Quantin Binnah are offereing care on this day should families need.
I would like to sincerely congratulate our Yr 3 and Yr 5 students for the impressive way they handled NAPLAN over the last 2 weeks. It was impressive to see their approach to these tests which are very much not how school normally runs. I would also like to thank the staff for preparing, supervising and guiding the students to do their best.
Please see the message from Shelley and Christine at Wyndham City Council - let's get voting for one of our crossing supervisors!
School Crossing’s Victoria, together with Wyndham City Council, are looking for the ‘Supervisor

of the Year’ 2025/2026.
There are seven regions across the state. A winner will be selected in each region, and the overall winner, will be selected from the regional winners. The winner of the 2023/2024 Supervisor of the Year is Ian Hook from Maroondah City Council in Ringwood Victoria. School Crossing’s Victoria would like to enlist your help to boost this year’s nominations.
It is our goal to reach as many parents, residents and school staff as possible and by involving them in the nomination process encourage all road users to think about, and reward, the active role the Supervisors play in the safety of their children.
Your support of this program will help ensure your Crossing Supervisor is shown the appreciation they deserve. We would appreciate if you could include the attached advert in your next school newsletter.
Nominations are open now, and close on Thursday 30th April 2026. Go to the School Crossings Victoria website www.schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au and complete an online nomination.
To vote for Lucy you will need her full name which is Lucy Muraca

One of the OLSC families has donated a car seat for someone who may be able to use it in the community. Please let the office know in person or call 9974 8500 if you can use this or know somebody in need.
If anyone in your family has an achievement that could be shared in the newsletter and is worthy of celebration and acknowledgement, please email Justin to be included in the next newsletter.
