French

Students across all year levels have been delving deep into the world of Collage, looking at the French artist, Henri Matisse. Students have engaged in videos and picture books learning about the life of Matisse, applying his method to their own collages. And, like Matisse, we went big! Students created art pieces connected to a habitat and collaborated with the whole year level on abstract pieces. Students used oil pastels to colour and create their own paper and colours before cutting and layering their pieces.

Our Prep students have been building up their collage skills moving from a formed shape to independently creating some simple yet abstract forms. Students showcased their abstract art forms in a Prep wide collaborative art piece, a tree habitat and abstract birds. Alongside their Matisse inspired art works students have been working on their greetings, working in pairs to chat using the known greetings.

Year 1/2 students have been working on their collage skills building a formed animal to abstract scenes. Students combined these ideas demonstrated in a abstract art forms in a Year 1 and 2 collaborative art piece, an ocean habitat. Alongside their Matisse inspired art works students have been working on their greetings, working in pairs to chat using the known greetings.

Students in Years 3–6 have used abstract shapes and scrap paper to build a Matisse inspired scene. Images ranged from animals, to scenery to just interesting shapes and improvised textures. Students then went large, building a collaborative art piece in their year levels. Years 3 and 4 created desert scenes and Years 5 and 6 created rainforest scenes. Together students developed some amazing pieces that together formed a beautiful French inspired art piece.
