Nate Smith - Motorcycling
Nate Smith, currently ranked No. 3 in Australia in the 250cc Speedway class, was recently invited by Motorcycling Australia to compete in the 250cc U16 World Championship Semi Final in Slovenia on May 24.
With only the top eight riders from each semi-final progressing to the Final in Prague, Nate entered the event focused on gaining experience and exposure within the highly competitive European speedway scene. Despite having no expectations, Nate rose to the challenge - qualifying for the final and earning the opportunity to race alongside the world’s best U16 250cc riders.
The final featured 16 of the top junior riders, many with several years of international experience. In contrast, Nate’s speedway career spans just two years - making his achievement even more remarkable. He finished the championship ranked 14th in the world and returned home with invaluable experience and insights into international competition.
Nate’s journey took him through Denmark, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria,
and Slovenia - broadening his skills and fueling his ambition to one day compete in the Speedway Grand Prix (SGP).
Now back in Australia, Nate is training hard in preparation for the upcoming Australian Titles. A top 1 or 2 finish will see him qualify once again to represent Australia on the world stage next year.
AFL Superstars
It’s been a huge few weeks of football for some of our St Joseph's boys and we couldn’t be prouder!
A massive congratulations to Cody Walker, who was recently selected to represent Vic Country in the 2025 National Championships in Western Australia - an outstanding achievement!
In more fantastic news, after a gruelling selection process that began with over 600 athletes, we’re thrilled to announce that Jackson Butterworth and Arli Walker have been named in the final School Sport Victoria U15 team and will represent the state at the National Carnival in Queensland.
We also want to give a big shout-out to the 34 students who were selected to represent Goulburn Murray and Murray League in the AFL Junior Interleague Carnival over the weekend.

Mr Nichols - Tony Award
A huge shoutout to Mr Kyle Nichols - recognised over the weekend at the 78th Tony Awards in New York City!
The Tony Awards’ Excellence in Theatre Education Award, presented by Carnegie Mellon University, included Honourable Mentions for 2025 - and our very own Mr Nichols was among them!
Recognised for his outstanding work as Theatre Director and Drama Teacher at Sherman High School (Texas), this is a phenomenal achievement.
Now part of the St Joseph’s Echuca team, we’re thrilled to have Mr Nichols on board - and already loving his creative input into this year’s production of Aladdin, directed by Ms Helen Fontana.
Fun fact: 7 Australians were nominated for Tonys this year - proving just how global the stage really is.
The Tonys are Broadway’s biggest night, and we’re so proud to be connected through this well-deserved recognition.
