Year 3 News
What a vibrant, high-energy fortnight it has been in Year 3! Between costumed celebrations and deep dives into new learning concepts, the students have brought tremendous enthusiasm to everything they do. From celebrating the magic of literature during Book Week to finding the perfect thoughtful treasures at the Father's Day Stall, our days have been packed with curiosity, creativity, and plenty of memorable milestones.
Literacy
Our young readers and writers have been immersed in an absolute feast of words and stories:
Book Week Festivities: The excitement was electric as students brought the "Symphony of Stories" theme to life, parading in fantastic costumes, exploring award-nominated titles, and sharing their genuine love for storytelling.
Text Study & Creative Predictions: Using the novel The Elephant by Peter Carnavas, students honed their analytical and inferencing skills. After wrapping up the chapter 'Black', they stepped into the author's shoes to craft compelling, imaginative prediction paragraphs anticipating what might unfold in 'A Voice'. They also tackled non-fiction comprehension tasks with a focused study on the unique gharial crocodile.
Phonics & Fluency: Daily structured literacy and partner reading routines continued at full steam. The class worked hard on consolidating advanced sound-spelling correspondences through daily retrieval, partner fluency drills, and summative phonics checks.
Numeracy
Mathematicians in the making have been busy investigating the geometry around them and calculating the odds:
Angles All Around Us: Students went on angle-hunting missions, learning to classify acute, right, and obtuse angles in real-world spaces. A class highlight was the "My Name in Angles" investigation, where students constructed their names using straight lines to measure and identify every geometric corner created.
Probability & Data: The focus then shifted to the fascinating world of chance and data. Through interactive trials, hands-on experiments, and strategic games like The King's Tax, students explored possible outcomes, tested their predictions, and mastered the precise vocabulary of probability from impossible to certain.
Inquiry
Our inquiry investigations took a purposeful look at global stewardship and environmental responsibility:
Human Impact on Habitats: Students explored the delicate balance of our planet's ecosystems, examining how human actions—such as habitat destruction, pollution, and climate shifts—affect living things.
Action & Awareness: Through guided research and multimedia resources, the class brainstormed actionable, everyday ways communities can protect natural habitats and support local biodiversity.
Digital Citizenship: Alongside our environmental studies, students leveled up their cybersafety awareness, discussing safe online communication and positive digital footprint habits.
Year 3 Mini Aths
The Year 3 students had great energy to Athletics Day, giving their best in every event and cheering one another on. Their teamwork &sportsmanship were wonderful and all had a fantastic time.

With the term rapidly racing towards the finish line, our Year 3s are showing wonderful maturity and pride in their work. Between crafting intricate origami pull-tab cards for Father's Day, stepping up on school community responsibilities, and preparing to showcase their learning, the momentum is strong.
